“I had a great time,” he said.

“Looking forward to more good times,” I replied. “Are you still kicking me out of the cabin?”

“I was planning on it, but now all I can think about is you sucking my cock,” he replied in a throaty voice. “So I guess you can stay as long as you want.”

I grinned up at him. “I’m short on cash, so I’ll pay however I can.”

He folded me into his arms, and I felt myself sigh. All the tension left my body; he was warm and strong and I felt safe while he held me. I’d felt very lonely when I flew out here to Colorado… but now I wasn’t so alone.

It was nice.

“Hey,” I said as he reached for the door. “I was actually thinking of staying a little longer, even after my ankle heals. Like, another week or two. If it’s okay with you.”

He grinned back at me. “I’d like that.”

When he opened the door, four cats all jumped up from where they’d been laying on my porch. They started mewling and weaving themselves through his legs.

“Yeah, yeah, I didn’t forget about you. I was busy. Quit being dramatic.”

I laughed as they followed the big mountain man across the camp like he was a Disney Princess.

When I opened my phone, I realized I had a text from Noah.

Noah: Hey, are you all right? I was expecting to find you in my bed when I got home this morning.

Noah: Not trying to sound clingy. Just making sure you’re okay.

Me: Shit, sorry! I’m totally fine. I ended up sleeping at the cabin last night.

Noah: Good :-) I’m going to pass out, but I’ll be free later if you want to get dinner.

Me: Actually, I’ll get dressed and come over now. I want to talk to you about something.

Noah: That sounds ominous.

Me: I promise it’s not bad :-) Be there in a few!

I got dressed and rode my bike over to Noah’s house. Ash’s truck wasn’t there; he must have still been working.

“How was work?” I asked after he kissed me and let me inside.

“Exhausting,” he replied. “Usually I spend most of my clinic shifts bored out of my mind. Yesterday wasnotone of those days. I don’t think I sat down for more than five minutes total. I might sleep until dinner. What did you want to talk to me about?”

“Well…” I swallowed hard. This wasn’t as easy as I thought. “I…”

“You slept with Jackie,” he said, a statement and not a question.

I gave a start. “How’d you guess?”

He smiled. “He texted us two minutes ago.”

I shook my head and laughed. “Wow, you guys really do tell each other everything.”

“We’re best friends,” he said simply. “I’m just glad he eventually stopped fighting whatever it was holding him back.”

“Speaking of fights, he and I had a big one. That’s kind of how it all started.”

His brows climbed up his forehead. “Why don’t you come tell me about it while I drift off to sleep?”
