“Jesse,” I hissed.
“Right here,baby.”
“Oh, never mind.”
He dropped hishead back and muttered to the ceiling, “She’s learning.”
“Don’t be ornery,”I ordered, and he laughed before kissing me quickly.
Spike texted Kim,then we headed out to the truck.

Jenson and Idecided to meet for lunch on Monday instead of dinner since we both had time.It meant I could talk to him about the job in a more relaxed environment, andhe didn’t feel like he needed to pick me up (he had this weird thing about menot driving at night).
I pulled up to ourfavorite taco truck downtown just after eleven and found him already sitting ata picnic table under a giant umbrella. He had his head buried in his phone andhe was frowning. I took a second to watch him, but the second he saw me, hegrinned, rising to his feet and pulling me in for a hug. “Hey, sissy.”
“Hey, are youokay?”
“A chance to haveuninterrupted time with my favorite sister? I’m fuckin’ great. Are you okay?”
I chuckled. “Yes,I’m great. Did you order?”
“Nope.” Hegrinned. “Waiting for you.”
We took a fewminutes to order, grab napkins and utensils, then headed back to the table.
“I need to talk toyou about something.”
“Uh-oh, thatsounds ominous.”
“No, it’s a goodthing… I hope.”
He settled hiselbows on the table and studied me. “Give it to me.”
“Devlin’s offeredme a job.”
“Oh yeah?”
I nodded. “Officemanager, receptionist, etcetera.”
He cocked hishead. “You’d be perfect for that.”
I narrowed myeyes. “But I’d be all up in your grill.”
He frowned. “Whywould I give one fuck about that?”
I shrugged.“Because I’m your little sister and I don’t want to be theannoyinglittle sister.”
“Jesus, Christine, that’s Mom talking, not me. I adore your face, and you know it. I would love tosee you every day.”
“I just don’t wantto cramp your style.”
He smiled. “Youcouldn’t if you tried.”
“Are you sure?”
“Hell, yeah.”
