I perked up. “Where?”

“Wherever you want.”

I hated that he had the ability to make me sad or happy within seconds. I should stop now. My mind whispered a warning, but my heart fluttered its last few beats before it reached a point of no return.

Chapter Seventeen

RUTH

“Have you lost your damn mind?” Those were Ma’s exact words before I got off the phone with her. Followed by, “Who takes a millionaire to an amusement park?”

Me.

To be fair, I was wealthy, and I still wanted to go. Owning my childhood dreams and all, you know, before the demon came and devoured my soul. When you come from nothing, I guess it was easy to assume rich people didn’t do things like go to amusement parks like normal folk. Although I couldn’t see Amit ever going to an amusement park either, he said wherever and I took advantage.

I didn’t bring Rupert or Max with me today as John drove me to the studio where I was meeting Amit. A guy as big as Amit, you wouldn’t think anyone would bother me. Besides, I wore casual clothes without any makeup since we were hitting an amusement park. I had on a pink baseball cap and Nike sneakers with a white T-shirt and faded jeans.

Amit didn’t know where we were going. All I told him was to wear casual clothes. I wanted it to be a surprise and planned on telling his driver discreetly once I got there. He wasn’t even bothered by it either. He should be careful before I believed I could get away with anything when it came to him.

When John pulled up to the front door, Amit walked out of the studio and approached the vehicle. He even opened the back door for me and offered his hand. I smiled as I took it. John lowered the passenger seat window and leaned across the seat. “Have fun, Ruth.”

“Thanks John.”

“Ruth,” someone called my name excitedly. I could already tell it was Pete. I looked toward the studio entrance as the gang strode out.

“So, the rumors are true?” Steve’s wide-eyed gaze bounced from Amit and me.

Amit’s grip tightened around my hand when I tried to let go. I glanced at him. His brows furrowed, and the beginnings of a scowl etched across his face. I forgot about their mutual dislike.

Liam slung his guitar case over his back, interrupting me. “This has me puzzled.” He was glaring at Amit. “Can you see why this confuses me?” He flicked his wrists at me, and I frowned.

I rushed to say something. “Amit and I are—”

“I told you already,” Amit interrupted. “Ruth is mine.”

Liam’s eyes darkened. “What game are you playing?”

Amit’s brow lifted. “Does it look like I play games?”

Liam tilted his head. “Only trying to figure you out.”

Amit smirked. “Keep trying.” He let go of my hand only to press his palm against my lower back. “You ready?”

I gravitated toward him slowly. “I’ll see you guys tomorrow?” I asked the guys.

All three of them had that Cheshire cat gleam to their smile. “You know it,” Liam answered for them.

“We missed you yesterday,” Pete piped in.

I waved goodbye. Lifting my gaze, I noticed Amit’s clenched jaw and frowned. “Amit…”

“Yeah?” He led us to his car, opened the back door, and I slipped into the back seat.

“How am I yours?” I asked him.

He hovered outside the door. His driver was probably listening in on us but who cared. “You just are.” He shut the door and walked around to the other side and got in.

Once he was seated, I asked, “So then are you mine?”
