“It’s not what you think it is.” Vex bites out.
“Doesn’t matter what I think. The old man is going to have a lot to say.”
Old man?!?
“Only if you tell him.”
Taylor smiles. “I’ve never told the old man anything that he doesn’t already know.” Taylor turns to face the windows and nods at a man standing near the still-cuddling couple before turning back to us. “Don’t be surprised if you get a visit soon.”
“Noted.”
Taylor leaves as fast as he arrived.
“What was that about?”
“Nothing.”
Yeah right. “Who’s the old man?”
“Taylor’s father.”
Oh. OH. These two know each other well.
How?
Why would a crime lord know a security guard for a billionaire?
More importantly, why does Vex know the guy’s father?
They didn’t seem like friends.
Would Vex explain his relationship to me if I asked? I shift my gaze back to find him eating his vegetables.
Do I want to understand the puzzle that is Vex?
Awake—ish
Dahlia
The barest hint of sunlight filters into my brain, pulling me out of a dreamless sleep. When did my mattress get so firm?
That isn’t a mattress. It’s a man I’m lying on.
Vex talked me into coming back to his place again to watch a movie. It wasn’t hard. I didn’t want to be alone and scared in my home. I must have fallen asleep on him…again.
Did I really think this wouldn’t happen when I went home with him?
None of this is real.
When I go home and go to work—
Work!
“What day is it?” I hop up, slamming my hand down on Vex’s chest.
“Dahl, what’s wrong?”
“What day is it?”
