“He came out of nowhere. Jess just dropped me off.”

“Fucker. I’d like to kill the bastard.”

“I’m okay. He didn’t seem to want to hurt me. He wanted to talk.”

His striking cobalt blue eyes, so much like her brothers, flashed in anger.

“No is no! If I see him again, I’ll skip the phone call to the useless police and take things into my own hands.”

“Ty you can’t afford anything more on your record. It wouldn’t be in the juvie system this time. A record is for keeps. Not worth it.”

“You are worth it.”

Faye put her hand to her heart, “Ty, I love you.”

He shuffled his feet uncomfortably, then looked down mumbling something about getting back to work. Faye’s heart squeezed in her chest. She slipped her arm through his and said, “Thanks Ty. You know how brave you are don’t you? You didn’t even hesitate. That took guts. Let’s go inside.”

As they walked arm in arm to the back door, Ty said, “Just wait till Jesse hears. He’s going to lose his shit!”

“Maybe we should keep it between us and not worry him,” Faye suggested.

“No fucking way. He needs to know.”

“No, you’re right. No more secrets.”

He looked heavenward and put his palms together. “Thank you.” His tone dripped with sarcasm. She shrugged and gave him a sheepish grin as they went inside.
