“Now I don’t want to eat him.”
Gabe used his fork to scramble the face, so it was now just a white blob of cream. “Is that better?”
She smiled at him through her tears and his heart melted even more. He watched her expectantly as she took her first bite. “Well?”
“Mmmm.”
He kissed a smidgen of cream from her upper lip then dug into his own stack of cakes. “Oh yeah that’s what I’m saying. What I lack in interior design I make up for in culinary skill.”
“Brag much?”
“Not much.”
“Good to know.”
“I don’t want you to go,” Gabe said.
“Me either.”
“When can I see you again?”
“Tonight.”
“Really?Yes!” he threw his fist up in the air cracking Annie up. “Now I think I will survive.”
“My place or yours?” he asked.
“Here.”
“Good.”
“Just pack your bags and stay awhile.”
“Pretty tempting. I may pack enough for a couple of nights,” she said.
“That would mean a lot to me,” Gabe said, earnestly.
“I need to get my butt in gear and get out of here,” Annie said after rinsing off her plate.
“I’ll see you tonight,” Gabe said.
“Thank you for everything, I have never felt so taken care of in my entire life.”
“You make it easy.”
“Bye Gabe.”
“Bye Annie, see you tonight. Don’t worry about eating before you get here. I’ll have something for us, maybe Chinese takeout.”
Annie gave him a quick kiss before heading out the door, “Sounds good to me.”

“Can we keep this on the down-low?” Darcy asked Captain Robert Gregory, an old friend from her days on the force.
“Of course, what’s up?” he asked.
“I understand her reasons, but I feel like my sister is making a mistake in not reporting this to you, so I am going behind her back.”
