But watching Finn right now? The way his face lit up when Brenna walked into the room and he slid his arm around her and smiled? Kane might not know a whole lot about love, but he could tell when feelings were genuine.

“You do realize that you all can’t hide out in a testosterone herd all night long,” Brenna said.

“Why not?” Finn asked. “There’s whiskey here. Plus, I’m giving house tours like you asked me to.”

Brenna opened her mouth to object, then shook her head. “Fine. But do mingle with everyone else, okay?”

“You got it, babe.” He leaned over and kissed her.

When they got back where they started, Kane searched the living room and kitchen area but didn’t see Mae. He really wanted to see Mae. Why, he didn’t know. He had always been comfortable in a room full of strangers, so it wasn’t like he “needed” her.

He wanted her, wanted to be near her, to breathe in that sunshine-and-lemons scent that always seemed to linger around her. He wanted to get her naked and slide his hands over the buttery softness of her skin, and make love to her until neither of them could breathe.

Yeah, he had it bad for this woman, which was so damn unfathomable to him he didn’t know what he was going to do about it. And though she had kissed him back, and oh fuck it had been good, the only thing she’d admitted was that he made her nervous.

He couldn’t wait to talk to her again and see if they could pick up where they’d left off outside.

Mae stood inthe kitchen with Erin, Alice, Brenna and Honor, listening to all of them talk while surreptitiously stealing glances at Kane. She couldn’t help herself. Despitestanding among a crowd of amazingly handsome men, she only had eyes for Kane. How could she not with all that thick dark hair, broad shoulders and lean waist and those long, long legs. She could already imagine how he’d look—

“And then we’re going to get some pigs for the backyard.”

Her gaze shot to Brenna. “Wait. You’re getting pigs?”

Brenna laughed. So did her sisters, who were both staring at her.

“You weren’t listening because your attention is laser focused on Kane August,” Erin said.

“Oh, it’s his eyes,” Honor said. “She’s lost in them.”

“It’s…no. I was admiring this beautiful house.”

“Oh, honey.” Honor put her arm around Mae’s shoulders. “Yes, Brenna and Finn’s house is utter perfection.”

“Not as perfect as Kane August’s ass, I imagine,” Brenna said with a smirk.

Erin sputtered a laugh. Mae gasped.

“I am not…I didn’t notice…” Mae finally raised her hands. “I give up.”

“Hey, we’re just teasing,” Erin said. “Plus, he’s hot as hell. How could anyone not notice him? I did. And I’m married to a hot-as-hell man.”

“You can trust us, Mae,” Brenna said. “We think of you as one of our sisters, which means we’re going to tease you.”

Honor nodded. “Mercilessly sometimes.”

Erin shrugged. “You get used to it. I’m surprised you haven’t yet.”

She looked at all of them, unable to speak.

Brenna elbowed Erin in the ribs. “Now you’ve hurt her feelings.”

Erin glared at Brenna. “You talked about his ass.”

Honor lifted her chin. “I didn’t say anything.”

“Oh, you’re far from innocent,” Erin said, with Brennachiming in, and suddenly all three of them were sniping at each other.
