That’s all I know. The rest is just ugly and mean.

He’s got Daddy’s girl. Daddy will be so mad.

I whine again. A few small barks.

No! No, you leave Daddy’s girl alone!

But the bad man doesn’t listen.

He takes Daddy’s girl, and he points something at me.

I don’t know what it is, but I bark at it. Anything the bad man has isn’t good.

He had a long silver tooth. It hurt my family. It hurt me.

This black thing must be bad too.

I bark, stand up tall.

Daddy can’t lose his girl. Not again. I’m scared, but I must be brave.

No!

No!

Leave, bad man!

No!

I rush forward,bravebrave.

There’s a noise.

Everywhere.

Fills me.

The shock makes my world turn white.

Something bites me. So fast, I can’t see what.

Bad man?

I fall in the snow. Not chasing rats, just falling. Tumbling.

Snow everywhere. Cold everywhere.

It hurts. I turn my head, lick lick lick. On my shoulder, there’s a little bite. It hurts, hurts, hurts.

Bad man’s white box roars. Spits out dirty air. It’s everywhere, just like bad man’s smell. Then it’s gone.

And so is bad man.

So is Daddy’s girl.

The bite hurts, my paw hurts, but I must find Daddy.

Bravebrave, I turn back.
