“Would you like something, Mr. Radek?” she asks through batted eyelashes.
“No, thank you.” His googly heart-eyes smile up at Bea as she heads toward the door. “Not from there, anyway,” he mutters under his breath.
“Sorry, what was that?” She pokes her head around the corner.
If I could, I'd kick Landon in the shin.
“Get yourself one, too,” I say through a titter. “My treat, eh?” She accepts the save with a nod and closes the door.
“Finally.” Landon leaps up to round the desk.
“Finally, what?” I narrow my eyes at him, arms folding in defiance.
“Finally, I get you alone in this tight dress.” His knees push mine apart as he palms the flanking armrests, eyes motioning to the drawer next to us. “You got any treats in there for me?”
I snap my legs closed, crossing one knee over the other. “You think I'd let you touch me after you flirted with my assistant?”
“Jealousy is never a good look.” Landon kisses the tip of my nose. “But it's pretty cute on you.”
I wipe it away, quirking a brow. “Pretty cute?”
His humid breaths fan over my cheek and jaw before his mouth reaches my ear. “Pretty cute that you think I'd want anyone else after tasting you.” He shakes his head. “Nah. Downrightadorablethat you don't realize you're the best I ever had.”
For whatever reason, it does nothing to dampen the fire of jealousy, instead stoking its sudden blue flames. All playfulness drains from the mood. It's not like I didn't know he'd been with others before me, but hearing him say it out loud like that? It's a painful reminder that I'm another number in the queue, while he's seen more, had more of me than any other man.
My teeth clack, the muscles in my jaw aching from tightening so hard. I reach for his file and shove it into his chest. “Sign the damn doc and send it back as soon as possible.”
“Aw, come on, Indi.” He laughs, angering me more. “I wasjoking. Trying to throw Bea off. If I flirted with you, she'd know something was up.”
“Right.” I swivel my chair the other way, wiggling the mouse to wake the computer from its slumber. “Get out.”
“Indi.”
“Did I stutter?”
“You're such a pain in my ass, you know that?” Landon's nostrils flare as he tucks the folder under his arm. “This conversation isn't over.”
“It is for me.”
He huffs and turns, cursing quietly about stubborn women before snapping my office door open and closed.
I rub the tension knotting in my temples when he leaves, banging my head against the desktop. Is it too much to hope my head splits open and relieves this damn headache?
Bea fumbles in mid-headbang with a drink tray, placing it in front of me and removing the paper from my drink's straw. “Ta-da!”
“Thanks.” I take a sip and sigh. “Salted caramel?”
“It's so good, eh?” She returns my card from her blazer pocket before sitting down and taking a pull from her own iced drink.
“Freakin' delicious.”
Mouth pulling to the side, Bea clears her throat. “I'm sorry.”
I stop drinking. “For what?”
“For flirting with Radek.”
“Oh,uh…”
