Now Zuri understood why some people back on Old Earth referred to a climax as a “small death.” It was hard to remember to breathe when you felt this overwhelmed with pleasure.

Kasium stopped his movements, and Zuri stopped convulsing and went limp. Gently he lowered her, then withdrew. She whimpered, but he stroked her back soothingly.

“Was that good?” he said. His voice was back to the soft, tender Kasium she was familiar with.

Rolling over, she looked up at him with hooded eyes. “That was perfect,” she assured him, reaching up to grasp his hand and pull him down next to her. He came willingly and snuggled against her. When she shifted her feet a little, she noticed something on her ankle. Pulling her leg up, she tugged at the cuff. It came off easily, and she realized it was a medi-band, the small display going blank the moment it wasn’t wrapped around her any longer.

“Where did this come from?” she asked, holding it up before tossing it aside. “Does medical equipment just magically fall off you?”

“I used it last time you felt ill, and it was left in here for convenience,” he answered with an amused rumble. “I slipped it on you to make sure nothing I did hurt you. It also told me when you were about to climax so I could time my own release with yours.”

She blinked in surprise. “That was really thoughtful.”

“Thank you,” he responded. “I read one of the Ugarian novels you like and noticed you’d highlighted several passages involving certain sex acts. I’m glad my hunch was proven correct and those passages were an insight into your enjoyment.”

“You do really good research,” she murmured with a smile. “Even when you’re trying to deny us both.”

“I’m sorry my stubbornness and fear almost ended our relationship,” he said.

“We’re going to talk all about it,” she promised. “But later.”

“Yes, later,” he agreed with enough eagerness to make her giggle.

“Let's rest for a little while, then go join everyone,” she said, closing her eyes. “I want to see what all the fuss was about, especially now that I can enjoy it.”

Kasium tensed. “You won’t go near Jalin.”

“I’ll go near him if I want to,” she corrected without opening her eyes or raising her voice. “Because you trust that I love you and I’d never want anyone else but you.”

She felt him relax against her with a soft sigh and a purring rumble. “Yes, you’re correct.”

“I usually am,” she answered before yawning. “It’s best you learn that now.”

“I’ve noted it mentally, and I’ll make sure to enter it into my files tomorrow,” he said.

“Good Talin,” she whispered, already drifting off to sleep. “You can have all the treats.”

She didn’t hear his reply, only felt his purring as she slipped into a light slumber.

Chapter 15

Rain

“We’re going to be late!” Rain called to her sister, Cherish. Although the teenager lived in one of the enclosures, she’d taken over Rain’s room to get ready. That was marks ago, and Cherish still wasn’t finished primping!

“I’m almost ready,” Cherish yelled back. “Go without me if you're in such a rush!”

Rain rubbed her forehead and fought with her impatience. “You’re the one who wanted to live in the enclosure. We could’ve asked for a cottage with extra room for you, so you didn’t have to use mine.”

“Ewww, live in the same house as my sister and her boyfriend?” Cherish said with familiar disdain. “Gross! You guys are always hugging and touching. Besides, the enclosures are way more fun, but you have a bigger mirror.”

Rain vowed to have a bigger mirror installed in Cherish’s enclosure. “I don’t want you to miss the big surprise. All the Talins have worked really hard on it.”

“I don’t care,” Cherish responded. “Just go.”

Giving up, Rain turned to find Royal, her youngest sibling, patiently waiting for her attention. He was clutching two multi-techs to his chest and looking up at her with an anxious expression.

Rain’s irritation vanished as she took in the timid and kind child. “What’s wrong, Royal?”
