A rattle reaches my ears, and I feel fingers on my chin, pulling my mouth open. A pill hits my tongue, and reflexively, I push it underneath to let it dissolve.
He remembered.
Icarus remembered what to do when the monster tried to claim me.
My medication is fast-acting, and I soon feel the beast crawl back into its cage, and my body becomes mine again.
My vision focuses, and I look upon the worried, expressive face of my Alpha. His emerald green eyes are hard and focused, and worry creases the corners.
"Sunshine?" he says softly. "Can you talk about what just happened?"
I open my mouth to speak but snap it shut immediately, shaking my head. I'm not ready to tell him I just had a meltdown because I realized I have to decide if I am going to live in my hurt and anger or forgive Cyrus.
It should be an easy decision.
His heartfelt confession should make it easy to forgive and move forward.
But right now, nothing feels easy.
Chapter thirty-four
Please, Jay, say something
Anything
"Mr. Stargazer," the nameless, faceless executive says, leaning across his desk. "Your outburst was very unprofessional."
I lock and unlock my phone, as if that will make a text message come in faster.
Why hasn't she responded?
"Mr. Stargazer!" He's shouting now. "What were you thinking?"
"What are you complaining about?" Ronda says from beside me. "He's trending on social media. Everyone wants to know the outcome of their love story. He's going to triple your ratings."
"Sin Bin is about hockey," he sneers. "Not about the Omega who has caught your eye this week."
I wrench my eyes away from my phone. "This is not just some Omega. This is my scent match. My soulmate. What is the point in having this platform if I can't use it for something that is actually important?"
He spreads his arms wide, gesturing to his office and, I'm assuming, the studio as a whole. "You act as if you are above this, Stargazer. You forget that we gave you a career when you washed up."
"And that's enough," Ronda snaps, jumping to her feet. The female Alpha points aggressively at the executive. "I'll tell you what we're not going to do. We're not going to say things that are absolutely moronic and could crash the station if they got out. We're also not going to spin this as some sort of mistake. This is good publicity, Aiden."
Aiden. That's his name.
"You're suspended, Stargazer," Aiden says, crossing his arms over his chest. "We need to let this die down. ABOSS is about the sports. This isn't a romance novel."
"If it were, she'd be in my arms by now," I grumble, pushing to my feet. "I'm fine with a short hiatus." I say, putting my hand on Ronda's arm to stop her from interjecting. "Call me when you want me back."
Ronda and I leave the studio and stand outside in the misting rain. I feel hot all over. I can't believe I did that.
I nearly drop my phone trying to see if she's texted me.
Nothing.
"She'll call," Ronda says gently. "It was a great speech."
"What if she doesn't?" My voice feels tight. "What if it's not enough?"
