“I’m just getting started, Lexi. Do you want to go upstairs?”
I know what will happen once we reach his suite. That invisible, unspoken line will be crossed.
Do I want that?
More than my next breath.
“I do.”
Sam tickles my lips, dropping tiny kisses along my jaw. “Let’s go.”
I turn to leave the room, but Sam grasps my hand, pulling me back into his arms.
“What is it?”
“I want to remember this moment. How magnificent you look, even though I can’t see your freckles with the makeup.”
“I thought that was the point.”
“I love your freckles.”
Suddenly, in that moment, I love them, too. “I didn’t think you ever noticed them.”
“Lexi, I’ve memorized every inch of you. Even the parts I’ve yet to see. With those, I had to use my imagination, although I can’t wait to see how much more beautiful you are in reality.”
My heart doesn’t stand a chance, although I’ve known for a long time that I loved the man. “I was wrong. James Bond has nothing on you.”
This time, I instigate the kiss, grasping his collar and dragging his mouth to mine. Screw making his suite. We might not leave the ballroom without consummating this passion. Sam’s hands knead my ass as I curl into the curve of his body. I couldn’t care less who might see us or what they might think. I’m lost in Sam. In our moment.
A man clears his throat to our right, and we break apart, albeit slowly. Neither of us are in any rush to leave this intimate cocoon.
Sam’s scowl turns to a smile when he turns his head. “Way to kill a moment, Mike.”
“Sorry, but in my defense, I waited around, hoping you two might come up for air on your own. But that wasn’t happening. I got some beautiful photos, though.”
My mind reels at his statement. “Photos? What do you mean?”
“I couldn’t help myself. You two were every romance cover come to life. Don’t worry, I’m not some crazed stalker. Sam and I go way back. I’ll give him the photos. It’s one hell of a memory.”
“Wouldn’t be a memory if you hadn’t interrupted us,” Sam interjects, but I can see from the glint in his eye he’s joking—kind of. “Mike is a good guy, even if he is a cock block. What do you want, because I was enjoying the hell out of kissing this beautiful woman.”
“Can’t say I blame you.” At Sam’s glare, Mike holds up his hands, easing him down. “Easy, I’m not moving in on your woman. But, I have a favor. I know you’re not on the schedule, but there is a charity fundraiser, and the organizer hoped we might get a few photos of you to sweeten the deal.”
Sam rests his forehead against mine, releasing a groan. “We were just leaving. Can’t you get someone else?”
“Someone better than Samuel Bernard?” Mike scoffs. “I don’t think so. I know I’m killing the moment, but it won’t take long.”
“It’s for charity, Sam,” I remind him, earning a glare.
“Heart Association, actually,” Mike interjects, sealing Sam’s fate. A charity close to hisownheart because of his recent loss.
My dark gaze meets Sam’s green one. “Do it for your Granddad. I’ll be here when you finish.”
Sam huffs out a groan. “You owe me, Mike.” Turning back to me, he steals a kiss, his thumbs sweeping across my cheeks. “And you, are mine for the rest of the night.”
“Deal.”
“I’ll bring him right back,” Mike promises, flashing me a grin.
