“Angel, what have you done to me?”
Lilly’s lips were against his when the doorbell rang. They both started, the sound blasting through their veil of emotions like a shotgun.
“Who the fuck could be here now?” Jacob muttered, but Lilly had a sinking sensation she knew the answer. “Ignore them, they’ll go away.” Jacob’s lips nuzzled her neck, but she pushed against his chest, eliciting a groan. “Lilly, please ignore it.”
“You know exactly who’s on the other side of that door, and we both know she isn’t going to leave.”
Jacob pushed himself up with a grunt, pulling on his underwear. “That fucking wanker, I swear to God, her timing, her fucking timing.” He threw on a t-shirt before turning to Lilly. “Do not put on a stitch of clothing. I’m coming right back, and we will continue where we left off—ugh. I’m coming!” He yelled as the bell pinged out again.
Lilly sat motionless, looking at the reddened areas on her body where Jacob’s beard and kisses had traveled. She heard people conversing, but their words were garbled.
Without a sound, Lilly pulled on her bra and panties.
“What are you doing?” Jacob’s voice sounded annoyed. “I told you not to get dressed.”
Lilly bit her lower lip. “Does Victoria plan on staying here tonight?”
Jacob guffawed. “Lord no, she was with Albert, the director of Milieu of Madness. They wanted to discuss the role at his office.”
“The director wants to discuss the movie? Now?” Lilly’s eyes widened; this news was huge. “You need to get dressed. I’ll grab a cab.” Lilly moved quickly, picking up her scattered clothes.
Jacob stilled her. “Lilly, stop. I told Victoria no. It’s fine.”
Lilly’s heart swelled at his words. “It’s not fine. Tell her you’ll meet them at his office. This opportunity is too big to pass up. Besides, she pretty much killed the moment anyway.” Jacob groaned, slumping into a chair. Lilly knelt beside him. “Go, I’m serious. I can find a ride home.”
He met her gaze, his chin resting on his hand. Lilly knew he was weighing his options. He was torn between losing her or the movie role. “Lilly—”
“You thought you threw away your big chance, and you did it for me. Now you can have both. I’m not mad. I love you for choosing me over her tonight.”
His expression softened. “I—I lo—” but Lilly silenced him with a finger to his lips.
“Get dressed. Don’t let her win. You’ve worked too hard for this opportunity.”
Jacob stared at the carpet as if searching for answers. “I was exactly where I wanted to be. I was making love to you.”
Lilly kissed him hard on the mouth but pulled away before his arms enveloped her. If she didn’t force him to leave now, they would be naked within moments, and as much as her body ached for his touch, it would be suicide for his sought-after role. “I’m going to head home; let me know how the meeting turns out.”
“No, please stay. I won’t be gone long and knowing you’re here when I get back—”
“I don’t think—”
Jacob cut her off, shaking his head. “I’ll go, but only if you’ll stay. Give me something to look forward to when I get home.”
Lilly hesitated before nodding in agreement. Jacob led her to his bedroom, her eyes widening at the four-poster bed and antique furniture decorating the room. He showed her the television and bathroom, then pulled her into a deep kiss, his eyes sparkling as they parted. “You do sleep in the nude, don’t you?”
Lilly giggled. “I can put a shirt on to retain some modesty, if you prefer.”
“Like hell, you will,” Jacob replied, unfastening her bra and tossing it on the floor. His eyes blazed again, and he pushed her onto the bed, his mouth suckling her breast. He finally pulled away at her insistent nudging. “You’re killing me, Lilly.”
“Sex with me is not going to be the reason you don’t get that part, now go. And don’t forget, you deserve this role. It’s as good as yours.” She scooted under the covers, Charlie greeting her with a sloppy kiss. She snatched the remote from Jacob’s hand with a playful grab and shooed him out of the room.
She leaned against the pillow, hearing the door close downstairs a few minutes later. She petted Charlie’s head, wondering if she was a fool for insisting Jacob leave her and return to Victoria’s side. “I’m in real trouble, Charlie. I’ve fallen completely in love with him.”
