The threat hung there like a noose and Jacob felt his blood boiling. She didn’t admit outright that Lilly would be a target, but it wasn’t much of a stretch. “You fucking—”

“Save it. Remember what I told you? You can’t win against me, no one can.” She ran her hand down his back, caressing his hip. “Are we on the same page, darling?”

Jacob gritted his teeth before giving a curt nod. He’d seen her wield her power before and he had no doubt she would turn both barrels on him if he didn’t agree. Worse, she would turn both barrels on Lilly.

Victoria strained to see something and then walked straight up to Lilly, pointing at the necklace. “Of course, now I see what happened to the necklace. You gave a five thousand dollar necklace to the fucking help?”

Roger flew in Victoria’s face. “This woman is my friend, she’s not the help, you insensitive bitch.”

Lilly unclasped the necklace and tossed it at Victoria. “You want it? Take it. I never wanted anything from Jacob but his love.”

Her words pierced Jacob’s heart like an arrow. Her love was the only thing he wanted too.

Jacob rushed over to the group as Victoria leaned into Lilly’s face. “Aww, how cute. You’re the one who left him the sweet note. I’ll bet you thought he actually cared about you, didn’t you? You thought you were different than all the other women he’s had. You were more than a notch on his bedpost, right?” She laughed. “How charmingly naive.”

Lilly swallowed, but her voice was steady. “I am different than those women. I’m not using him to salvage my career.”

Fury flashed in Victoria’s eyes. “You’ve stooped to a new low, Jacob. How drunk do you have to be to fuck someone like this?”

Lilly looked as if she had been punched and Jacob grabbed Victoria, dragging her away. “That’s enough Victoria! She’s a better woman than you’ll ever be.”

“If she’s so wonderful, then why did you choose me over her? Go on, tell her. Tell her what we discussed not two minutes ago.” Victoria turned back to Lilly. “I hope you enjoyed being fucked by the A-list, sweetie, because he always returns to me. You were just a way to pass the time and get a rise out of me. It worked, I’m back and you’re done.”

“Get her out of here,” Roger snarled, as he wrapped his arm around Lilly to shield her from Victoria’s verbal onslaught.

Jacob wanted to dropkick Victoria out the window when he caught sight of Lilly’s stricken face and the tears in her eyes.

Victoria shot Lilly one last scathing glance. “I warned you to stay away from Jacob. Now, you’ve learned the hard way.”

Jacob couldn’t handle the verbal onslaught slamming Lilly any longer. He moved towards her, but Roger blocked his movements. “I mean it, Jacob. Get the fuck out.”

Feeling as if he’d been kicked in the gut, Jacob grabbed Victoria’s bag and dragged her by the arm out to his vehicle.

He started the car and screeched out of the driveway, hitting the dash with such force it rattled. “What the fuck is wrong with you, Victoria? Why do you hate me so much?”

Victoria’s green eyes widened, and for once she looked contrite. “I don’t hate you; I love you.”

Jacob sputtered with rage. “You love me? What a load of bullshit!”

“I know I screwed up and I shouldn’t have been so awful to that woman, but have you considered how I feel?”

“How you feel? Why the fuck should I care how you feel? You cheated on me, remember?” Jacob’s voice boomed in the interior.

“I know, but I want another chance. We were good together,” Victoria pleaded.

“We weren’t a couple, we were a publicity field day. It was a nightmare.”

Tears slid down Victoria’s cheeks in a ploy for sympathy, but Jacob had witnessed her ability to turn on the waterworks on numerous occasions. “How could you really care about that woman? She’s not like us, Jacob. She doesn’t understand our life.”

“And she’s a better person for it. I adore that woman, but you have ruined any future I have with her. You won, there’s no coming back from this disaster. Go ahead and do your victory dance.”

Victoria’s hand slid down to his crotch, her lips curving into a seductive pout. “I can make it better. Let me show you one of the many perks of our reconciliation. I’ll make you forget about your little nurse.”

Jacob looked at her, his blood boiling, tossing her hand off him. “You’ll never make me forget about her, no one can.”

But Victoria wasn’t going to give up so easily. She unzipped his pants, gripping the base of his cock and lowering her head to him. “I can make it better though. I know you’re angry right now, but soon you’ll realize how much better we are together. Until then, take all your anger out on me. Show me how much you hate me.”

“Get your hands off me, Victoria,” Jacob barked.
