Lilly didn’t care what time it was; she deserved a bubble bath. She sank into the bathtub, the warm water soothing her aching muscles. Unfortunately, it did nothing for the irritation she felt towards Jacob Edmonton, or the way her body reacted whenever she thought of the man. And that kiss, that damn kiss. It was amazing she didn’t orgasm from his kiss alone.
She closed her eyes, reliving the moment, the pressure of his mouth against hers, his tongue working its magic. Damn him for being so talented in that department. Why did the best kiss she’d ever experienced have to be with a man who only valued women for their erotic abilities?
Before she could ponder the issue further, the phone rang, and Lilly mentally prepared herself before answering. It was after midnight. It wasn’t likely to be good news on the other end of the phone. “Hello?”
Sabina’s voice was a welcome sound to her ears. “Hey girl, I wanted to check on you. I left a couple of messages, but I hadn’t heard back, and I was worried. How’s our VIP?”
Lilly sipped her Chardonnay. “She was doing great when I left.”
“And when was that exactly?”
“Enrique and I left about ten.”
Sabina mewed appreciatively. “Really? How interesting.”
Lilly chortled. “No, it's not. Ben already told you about catching us in the locker room?”
“Whatever do you mean?” Sabina feigned innocence.
“Save it. Sorry to break it to you, but nothing happened.”
“Ben said you two looked mighty cozy together before he accidentally busted up the moment. Did you two pick up where you left off?”
Lilly snorted in laughter. “Yeah right. His girlfriend showed up, which left me alone with Jacob Edmonton, and it was all downhill from there.”
“Hold up, you were with Jacob Edmonton? And you didn’t call me?”
“It wasn’t planned. Enrique and I went to the pub for a drink—”
“With his girlfriend? Wasn’t that a bit awkward?”
“No, she showed up later. Jacob came in to pick up food and Enrique invited him for a drink. Then his girlfriend showed up, Enrique left me with Jacob and…” Lilly trailed off, her face flushing.
“And what? You better not withhold juicy information, girl.” Lilly could almost see Sabina sitting on the edge of her seat. She lived for this dramatic crap.
“We kissed twice, and then I left,” Lilly blurted out, speaking so quickly that the words ran together.
“You kissed Jacob Edmonton? Holy shit.”
“Not exactly. Jacob kissed me, but he didn’t mean it.”
“I can’t even pretend to know what that means. Was he out of his tree?”
Lilly giggled, this conversation had gone down the rabbit hole. “No, he wasn’t drunk.”
“Let me see if I’ve got this right, a sober Jacob Edmonton kissed you, not once but twice, but he didn’t mean it. Did he just keep falling against your mouth?”
“The first time he was pretending we were a couple in front of Emma.”
“Who the hell is Emma?”
“Enrique’s girlfriend. You wanted the story, keep up.” Lilly giggled again. “Jacob figured he could embarrass me by putting on a show and putting me on the spot, but I upped the ante and pretended to be his wife. I even leaned in to kiss him, and before I knew it, we were kissing.”
“So you kissed him?” Sabina qualified.
“I moved forward, but I planned on pulling back at the last second. Apparently, he moved forward as well.”
“Crikey. Was he any good? He must be an amazing kisser.”
