Her traits were piling in my head. I stored them in a sacred compartment that hadn’t been visited since I was a boy. Seventeen, exactly.
She lifted the glass again, finally causing me to fold. She was wondrous. Her victory didn’t come before mine. It was a privilege to have her in my line of vision at all.
She was willing to call my bluff. I was willing to teach her a valuable lesson.
I don’t bluff.
The game she was proposing, she wouldn’t win. I didn’t have the heart to tell her at the moment. And, a part of me didn’t want to spoil the fun. I just hoped she understood the severity of it all.
By the time I was handing off the receipt, the spot beside me was empty. I used my right hand to grab the woman who was attempting to flee.
With my 6’4 frame, it was almost impossible for her to get too far too fast and I not be able to catch her. Though her limbs were extensive, they weren’t as long as mine.
“You hit my car with your door,” I whispered through clenched teeth.
She was stirring things within me that were inexplicable. Whatever feeling this was, I wasn’t fond of it but neither could I stray away from it. I was trapped.Smitten. Invested.
I hadn’t told her anything she didn’t know. The lack of movement of those gorgeous features told me so. She paid close attention to detail.
I was almost certain the handwriting on the receipt matched the handwriting on the note I’d left on her car although the names were different.
“And, you had an opportunity to speak to me about it. You chose not to exit your car so I’m choosing not to give a fuck anymore.”
Feisty.
A lethal tongue.
I have better use for it.
“Call me,” I demanded, uninterested in what the fuck she was talking about.
When I released her, she wasted no time heading in the opposite direction. She wasn’t far when she looked over her shoulder to send daggers through my heart.
“Don’t hold your breath,Sonnie.”
Hearing my name roll off her tongue revealed I was truly a man of great restraint when necessary, because it required almost everything in me not to pull her into the elevator, tongue her down until we reached the twenty-fourth floor, push her into my suite, and fuck her right on the full-sized bar.
Business, Sonnie.
I wasn’t here for her, but she’d quickly become my business. I headed in the opposite direction with thoughts of her still lingering.
I located the security office within seconds of leaving the lobby. No Namewasn’t my only prey tonight. She was merely the appetizer.
Pew.
Pew.
Pew.
Three bullets, four bodies.
I pulled the office chair in my direction and rested my bones. In front of me was a full spread of surveillance that captured every corner of the hotel, excluding the inside of their guests’ rooms.
The viewing of the twenty-fourth floor drew my attention toward the bottom left screen. It was late and most of the guests were already in bed for the night. There was little to no movement in the hallway. However, one figure in particular caught my eye.
Fuck.
Though my plan was slightly blemished, I pivoted. I shoved the data disruption device into the appropriate slot, prepared to swipe the surveillance from the last three days. In addition to the backlog, there wouldn’t be any salvageable feeds for the next twenty-four hours.
