My heart hurts at her words. I have been nothing but honest with Taylor. Well, she doesn’t know what I truly am, but that is for good reason.
My fists tighten to remain from confessing exactly what I am.
“What is that supposed to mean?” I ask after getting myself under control.
“The bathroom, you obviously lied about loving me just to throw me off my game,” Taylor says, putting her hands on her hips.
My body reacts before I can as I reach for her, but she takes a step back.
“Don’t touch me.”
My stomach tightens, she doesn’t believe that I truly love her.
“Do you trust me?” I ask, ready to tell her everything if she trusts me.
“Why should I trust you?”
“Because I want to tell you the truth, but we should get inside.”
“You’ve got ten minutes to plead your case.”
Taylor looks at me before turning and walking into her house.
I follow.
She leads me to her backyard.
It looks the same as when we were kids.
There is a big deck with chairs as well as a swinging chair that can easily hold three people. Then there is a vast grassy area that leads into the woods behind the house. While the Montgomery’s have neighbors, their yard is pretty secluded.
“Ten minutes starts now.”
I nod, unsure of what to say or where to start. How do I convince Taylor that she is the one for me?
Do I start from the beginning? Do I tell her what I am? Do I just address today?
I decide to start with today and I let it pour from my heart.
“Taylor, you’ve got to believe me. I only told the truth today in the bathroom today. I saw you upset and I needed you to hear how much I care about you and love you. Our night together was the best night of my life, and I don’t regret a single moment of it. Waking up and you being gone broke my heart and made me realize that I truly love you. You are the one for me, Taylor. You are my mate.”
Taylor’s eyes are wide as she looks at me before scoffing.
“I can’t believe you are still playing at this. You won, alright? You and the rest of Druk Technologies got me to leave and Dylan texted me saying the case was dismissed as well.”
Her doubt in my feelings hurts and knowing that she is still in contact with Dylan leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
When is she going to get this through her thick skull? I didn’t say those things to get into her head and have her leave.
“Taylor, you have to believe me. I didn’t just say those things today to bother you or get you to drop the case. I said them because I mean them. I. Love. You. From the moment you came back into my life, there was a spark, and it has only grown. Tell me you don’t feel it, too, and I’ll walk away.”
I mean every word, even though it hurts to say. I never want to walk away from Taylor, but I will if that is what she wants. She and her feelings mean more to me than my own.
Taylor turns her back to me and runs a hand through her hair. “I-I—”
“Taylor, just be honest with me. I can take it.”
“I don’t know how I feel,” Taylor mutters.
