Chapter 34

-Logan-

Sky tugged at the leash and let out a small complaining grumble.

“One second, buddy.” I retrieved my phone and sent a quick message to Kyle.

Logan:We’re here.

A dog barked from the park, and Sky’s tail started to wag like crazy.

“We’re going in, I promise,” I told him. “We just need the okay from Kyle.”

My phone buzzed, and I found Kyle’s answer.

Kyle:Perfect timing. Be out in a sec.

If Kyle was in the dog park, that meant Victoria was too.

The woman I loved was inside the fence. With animals. I wondered if she was curled up crying.

The nearby gate clanged open, and I barely recognized Kyle. At the wedding, he’d been groomed to within an inch of his life. Today, he looked like an unruly teenager that had managed to get out of the house without having to take a shower or put on fresh clothes.

Kyle walked toward us, and Sky went still.

He was used to strangers, but this was a new environment, and while he was excited, he was also nervous. I reached down and patted his head. “Don’t worry, you’ll like Kyle. He’s a dog person.”

Unlike Victoria.

I silenced the traitorous voice, which had been plaguing me ever since we’d driven away from the Crazy Moose and walked to meet Kyle.

Instead of greeting me, Kyle stopped a few feet away and spoke to Sky. “Hey there.”

Sky’s tail wiggled a few times.

“I’m Kyle.” He held out a hand for Sky to sniff. Kyle must have been around other dogs recently, because Sky’s nose went crazy.

“Sky.” I motioned to the dog. “Don’t worry, he warms to everyone.”

Kyle moved a bit closer and gave Sky’s head a scratch.

Sky closed his eyes in approval.

“See, he’s easy.”

Kyle turned his attention to me and held out his hand. “Good to see you again.”

“Same, thanks for answering my texts.”

“I told you; Victoria is my favorite cousin. If there’s any chance you’re the guy for her, I’m going to do everything I can to facilitate the two of you getting together.”

My eyes drifted to the park. “She’s in there?”

“She is.”

“And she’s not crying?”

Kyle laughed. “She looks like she wants to, but she’s being brave. Come on.” He waved me forward.
