Another bark.
“And Rachel may or may not be taunting him with treats.”
“She’s the meanest,” I said with a smile.
“Tell me about it.” Shane paused. “Speaking of women, how are things going with Victoria?”
I hadn’t asked Victoria about it, but I’d assumed she’d talked to Rachel. “Fine.”
“How fine?”
“Why do you want to know?” I asked.
“Because, if you’ve told her you love her, I win a bet.”
“You bet on this?”
“I bet onyou, buddy. Don’t let me down.”
“Now I want to take it back.” I got up and started pacing.
“So, you did tell her!” He practically shouted the words.
“Maybe,” I grumbled.
“About time.”
“Shut up.”
The two of us had been through a lot, and it meant the world to me that he was supportive. It helped that Victoria and Rachel were good friends as well.
“Did you guys set a date for the wedding?” Shane asked, but I could tell he was joking.
“We’re thinking about the same day as yours.”
“Hah! That would be awesome.” He laughed. “But really. Is everything good?”
“So far. No proposal. We’re going to give the long-distance thing a few months and see where we’re at.” It didn’t feel great hearing it out loud.
“Is that what you really want?”
“Better than nothing,” I said.
I heard Victoria come back into the bathroom from her side. “Thanks for helping out with the Moose.”
“No problem. Thanks for helping me win a bet.”
“Uh-huh.”
“We’re going to need details when you get back.”
“Yeah, yeah.” He wasn’t the only one who wanted more details, but that was going to have to wait. First, Victoria and I had a wedding to get through.

“Who knew super rich people dropped gold-leafed foliage after the ceremony?” Logan said before he sipped his water.
