Logan tapped his chin with a finger as he looked down at his stomach. “Shouldn’t take too long.”
I heaved an inward sigh of relief. If Logan left my side, I wasn’t sure I could stay upright.
The elevator dinged open, and Logan guided me inside. He kept a hold of my hand until we got to the room, and he headed for the toilet.
The past several hours washed over me, and I stared at my palm, wondering why it felt so cold without his hand in mine. I also wondered how long it would take for me to stop shaking.
Logan had saved me at the shelter. Did he even realize what he’d done?
A bath would fix this. We had free time until dinner, which gave me plenty of opportunity to relax.
If I could even do that with Logan around.
Things had been so easy between us up in Big Bear, mostly because we’d both known it was going to end. Two weeks and we’d go our separate ways.
And how has that worked out?
I shoved the annoying, logical voice in my head aside and took a breath.
My plan to take things deeper with him had been going well until the animal shelter. I needed to try to get things back on track, but first, I needed a break.
I jerked when my phone buzzed. Was Logan texting from the toilet? Instead, I found a message from Hannah.
Hannah:Are you okay??? I saw some of the pictures.
I closed my eyes and forced myself to breathe. I needed to answer her, or she’d come to see how I was doing herself. I loved my sister, but I didn’t need anyone else around to witness my shame.
Victoria:Barely okay. About to take a bath.
I winced when I realized that the comment had left her an opening to ask if Logan would be joining me, but to my surprise, she didn’t mention him.
Hannah:Great idea. Please call if you need anything.
The bathroom door clicked, and I jumped.
“All yours.” Logan emerged and waved me in. “I started the water in the tub.”
Seriously? How was I supposed tonotfall for this guy?
Logan scratched the back of his neck. “I hope you like the lavender bath salts, because that’s what I threw in.” He looked sheepish.
I blinked at him. Running the water? Choosing the bath salts? The fact that he even knew what bath salts were was impressive.
“Did I overstep?” he asked.
“No.” I shook my head. “I love lavender.”
“I suspected. You wear it a lot and always smell good. Plus, it’s relaxing.” He smiled. Instead of his usual confidence, he looked a little shy, which only shot his hotness meter through the roof. “After a few days in Vegas, I’m tempted to jump in there myself.”
I swallowed and threw a lopsided grin onto my face. “But you know better, because you don’t mess with a woman’s bath time.”
“I do know better.” He gently took hold of my arm as we passed, forcing me to stop and look at him. “Hey, are you okay?” His hand moved to my shoulder, and he squeezed.
Those blue eyes were going to be my undoing. They almost made me forget that I’d just been attacked by multiple animals. “I—I think so.”
“Do you want me to get you anything? Coffee? Food? A new dress? A stuffed animal to maul?”
I wanted to laugh, but my insides were warring between panic about what had happened at the animal shelter and the desire to melt into Logan.
