“Seriously?” I asked.

He grinned. “I’m not going to vacuum the couch again.”

William looked uncomfortable as he and Kyle set up paper plates, napkins, forks, and knives. Then Kyle pulled a box of doughnuts—cake as promised—out of the bag and put it in the middle of the table. “Shall we?” He waved me over.

My apartment had become my sanctuary since the wedding. No one else had been here, and except for telling my family I was too busy to hang out, I hadn’t called or messaged anyone except Kyle, Rachel, and Logan.

Now these two men had invaded my space, and I was already searching the carpet for signs of dirt from their shoes.

“Relax.” Kyle moved behind me, placed a hand on each of my shoulders, and gently steered me to the table. “Eat. Do you have milk?”

I nodded and waved at the fridge. Then I sat and took a deep breath.

Kyle added milk and glasses to our options before settling in his chair. He took up a knife and fork and started cutting the doughnut apart like this was a fine dining establishment. “How was therapy?”

My eyes darted to William, who gave me an apologetic smile before he spoke. “After I found out what Courtney had done, Kyle insisted on telling me what was going on. I never would have intruded otherwise.”

How did Courtney factor into this?

“He’s got something to show you, but not until you tell me how therapy went.” Kyle waved a piece of doughnut at me before stuffing it into his mouth.

I pushed my plate away and swallowed. “It’s going to be a lot of work, and it’s going to take longer than I thought.”

Kyle finished his bite and said, “I’m sorry to hear that.”

“Thanks.”

Kyle’s gaze swiveled to William. “Tell her.”

“Tell me what?”

William patted his lips with his napkin before pulling his phone out and setting it on the table. “I had no reason to contact you until yesterday, which is why I didn’t notice that my sister had used this to send you a picture.” He swiped the screen to life, and Logan’s list appeared.

My mouth went dry. I’d suspected Courtney’s hand in getting me the list, but with everything going on, I’d blocked her from my mind.

William didn’t make me reply but went on. “I confronted her, and she said she was trying to save you from Logan’s expectations.”

Kyle scoffed.

“I agree,” William said. “After some cajoling, I found out that she’d gotten the list from Logan’s wallet, which she’d miraculously found after he’d dropped it at the reception.”

“Uh-huh,” Kyle said.

I thought back to Logan discovering his wallet was gone, then my mind went to the evening before when Courtney ambush kissed him. Her hands had been everywhere, and that could easily have included his back pocket.

William shifted in his seat. “I pushed Courtney pretty hard about why she sent it, and she finally told me that Logan is the only man she’s ever had a good relationship with. When they dated, she accidently discovered Logan’s list, and she knew she’d never measure up.”

I could totally understand that.

“When she saw him again this weekend, she decided she wanted him back, but after Logan rejected her, she vowed to make you as miserable as possible. She said you’d been acting strange at the ball, and she saw that as an opportunity to disrupt things. She can be very selfish.”

All I could do was nod.

William continued to study me. “Did you know about this list before she sent it?”

“Only from Courtney.”

“Have you asked Logan about it?” he asked.
