That day when we all lost.
“History is going to repeat if you don’t figure out what you want, Aries,” Theo whispers. “You think people are happy you’re here? On their turf?”
I fight the urge to respond.
To deny the truth he’s throwing in my face.
“You fucked up a lot of people’s lives back then, Aries. They want their revenge.”
“Why are you telling me this?” I whisper.
“I’m trying to prevent history from repeating itself,” he offers and smirks. “Your new shining star is glimmering far too brightly not to be noticed.”
“They won’t touch her,” I huff and try to dismiss him, but his grip further tightens, making me hiss.
“Oh, really?” Theo’s voice further drops, and there’s that cynical look in his eyes. The haunting one that makes his eyes look chilling.“And while she’s sitting in that classroom, writing notes and hoping to see you, don’t you think she’s wide open?”
The picture makes me frown as I look into Theo’s eyes.
He’s telling the truth.
“Zander was forced to join the practice team on the ice. Matteo is obviously the potential new captain of the team. That leaves them together and extremely far from the study building,” he points out facts I hadn’t even gathered yet. “Not to mention your rather cunning little brother got a call about a modeling gig that he can’t downplay, so he’s outside the study building, talking away. Where does that leave your Maiden?”
I ignore the goosebumps running up my arms as fear begins to settle into my bones.
“Quietly alone in an empty classroom. Head down as she fights the need to sleep after a long, exhausting day of pleading her Kings in the early hours and aiming for perfect grades through all her classes. She’s a smart one. Extremely cunning… and attractive, of course.” He chuckles as he leans in far too close. “You think no one is watching? That she’s not someone’s new obsession?”
I can’t barely take a breath, realizing he’s fucking right.
She could be in danger.
No.
She is in danger. That’s why he’s telling me this.
“If you run fast enough, you’ll get there in five minutes,” he offers and lets me go. “Four if you sprint hard enough.”
I clench my fists and struggle not to dart out of here because I know this body is going to be a problem.
“I’ll clean up,” he declares with a smile.
“Meaning I owe you,” I conclude.
“Obviously.” He shrugs. “But better to owe me than the fuckers plotting against you. Pick your poison.”
Cursing as I head to the door, hearing his final words.
“Keep playing with your precious goods, and you’ll damage them before you can enjoy them, Aries.”
I sprint the moment I’m out the door, Theo’s laughter haunting me as I can only pray I didn’t just fuck up.
The school is more packed than usual, the halls filled with students moving up, down, and center. I’d be wasting time trying to fight through the crowded masses to get to the other side of Leighton’s massive campus.
Leaving me no choice but to use the underground paths very few know about.
I know this school inside and out. Know plenty of hidden passages ways or the secret dungeons upperclassmen enjoybringing males and females for “initiation” in hopes of finding “fresh meat” who will enter our society without batting an eye.
That’s the beginning of their downfall.
