“You’re welcome, my Ruthless King.”

With my conviction set in stone, I know what my next move will be in this sinister world—my lips claiming Eva’s as the thought pulses into my mind with ambition.

The world will be obsessed with our wrath brewer.

A NEW RIVAL IN OUR MIDST

~GEMINI~

“I’m not going to ask,” Zander announces, as he’s the first to acknowledge our approach. I’m midway through eating a blueberry-lemon scone to reply, but Matteo doesn’t hesitate to comment.

“Good, since you know the answer to your question.”

The stare-off between these two has me and Ares staring at them in dismay.

“Do you two need a room or something?” Ares ends up announcing.

We’re all staring at him as he slowly shrugs.

“What? You two are either in a competition for Sweet Canary’s attention, or you need a moment to duke it out in a closet.”

“You know,” I begin and take a second to swallow my food. “That would be cool.”

“There’s nothing cool about sharing a closet with this man,” Zander notes and points to Matteo, who’s as calm as ever.

He actually looks relaxed.

“I marked her first,” Zander emphasizes. “Stop copying me.”

“If I had the intention of copying you, our Maiden would have my handprint inked across her ass cheeks,” Matteo says in a matter-of-fact tone. “So, unless you want me to make such a temptation into reality, I’d take a chill pill and shut up.”

I don’t know if Zander is plotting Matteo’s murder or a comeback, but I suggest taming the situation.

“Zander? Come try my blueberry-lemon scone.”

He blinks out of whatever concentration state he’s in to gleamingly smile my way.

“Coming, Dolcezza.”

God, he’s like a puppy.

So obedient.

“Where’s Aries?” I ask as Zander wraps his arms around me so he can rest his chin on my shoulder. I absentmindedly offer him a piece of scone while I look to Ares for some sort of answer.

Ares just shrugs. “Honestly, I have no fucking clue,” he confesses but looks troubled. “I don’t know what his deal is today. If he’s projecting a certain façade to ensure he’s portrayed as a heartless bastard, it’s working.”

Matteo scans around before he mutters, “He may be anxious being back here as an attendee and not a bodyguard.”

Matteo has our attention as he slips his hands in his pockets.

“Does it have to do with him graduating at an accelerated pace?” I quietly wonder, noticing a group of students coming our way.

We already rejoined with Keir and Theo, their Maidens both off to their classes due to earlier starts. We didn’t stay together for long, especially with Theo looking annoyed after observing me a few times.

Noticing the very obvious bruising on my upper thighs.
