When we get to the beach Reign, and I split up and start picking up whatever trash we see.
Never in a million years would I think I’d be at the beach on a weekday, picking up trash for an old lady.
But my mom would always tell me to respect my elders, no matter what. My mom is huge on respect as well as my dad. You never know what role people will play in your life so you should show everyone respect. My dad is only respectful to people who show respect to him.
The only person he doesn’t respect or give a shit about is my uncle Alex, my mom’s brother. They have been bickering like children, going back and forth for over twenty years and they still can’t manage to get along.
My sister and I find it funny while my mom finds it immature and stupid.
Family dinners with those two are always the best.
Reign and I have been picking up trash for more than an hour now and we are getting closer to the water since there is just some leftover trash in that area.
I’m getting bored and my back is aching from all the bending down. Pretty sure there is going to be a burn on my back too.
I get we’re helping the planet but who the fuck would actually want to do this during their free time?
I walk up to Reign, and she looks up at me with a questioning look in her gaze. She has sweat on her forehead and chest from the heat beating down on her skin.
Guess it’s not as cold as I thought it would be.
“When can we leave?”
Reign stands up and shrugs. “Whenever we want.”
“Great because I want to go back.”
I start to turn around, but Reign doesn’t move. Instead, she drops the trash bag and walks towards the water.
“The water isn’t too cold,” she says, dipping her feet in.
Reign shivers her before looking at me. “Are you trying to get me to go in the water?”
A small teasing smile appears on her face. “Would you go if I asked?”
“No.” Reign rolls her eyes and all of a sudden, I have the urge to grab her by the throat and threaten her to do that again so she can see what the outcome will be. I feel cold water splash on my chest and run down my stomach. “Reign,” I warn as I see a smile spread on her face, a mischievous smile.
“Just put your feet in. It’s not that bad.”
I cross my arms over my chest. “Come on, stop fucking around and get out.”
Reign’s eyes dart to my chest so I take the time to stare at her. Her body is glistening with sweat which makes her look absolutely radiant. Her skin glows with the sun beaming down on her, complimenting her skin perfectly.
Water splashes on my face making me focus my attention back on Reign who is holding in a laugh.
Next thing I know I’m in her face, my hand around her throat as I pull her close to me. “I said, stop,” I demand in a low threatening voice.
Reign nips her bottom lip before water splashes on my leg.
Fuck this.
I grab Reign and throw her over shoulder as I walk towards the water. “Killian! I’m sorry. I’m sorry! Please, Killian-” Reign yelps and screams while scratching my back.
“Should have thought about that before splashing me, Reign.”
And for the what feels like the first time in a long time, my lips tilt in a small, barely there smile as I throw her in the water.
