“Killian makes you happy. I missed that smile on your face.”
“I always smile,” I say, defending myself.
“Not like this.”
She’s right.
I can’t even deny it with the blush on my cheeks.
I can’t even deny it when she sees me staring at Killian from across the room.
I can’t deny the glow that’s on my face when our eyes connect.
He makes me feel like a little school girl with a school crush.
No one has ever made me feel like this.
The front door opens, and I hear grunting.
My stomach feels like it’s about to drop especially when I feel anxiety running through my veins, wondering what happened.
When wheezing follows, Baba and I stand up from the table and run towards the foyer. We immediately see my dad holding his stomach as he tumbles inside the house.
We run over to him before he falls to the floor. Blood covers his hand and drenches his black muscle shirt.
My eyes go to the door, waiting for Killian to appear and explain what the hell is going on.
I’m anticipating him, waiting for him to just show up and make everything better.
“Papa, what happened?” I ask him as Baba, and I carry him to the kitchen where the first-aid kit is. Baba calls an ambulance as I help him.
“Killian,” Papa says before his eyes fall shut.
My mind immediately goes back to the text.
The one where Star apologizes.
Thirty-Six
Killian
I never thoughtI’d ever dread coming back home after a long trip.
Usually I love being home, in my room where no one can bother me.
It’s my safe space along with my house in Greata I bought when I turned nineteen.
But instead of feeling happy and relieved, all I feel is guilt and pressure.
So much pressure that I just want to give up already and wish that life would take me.
Reign is back in Bulgaria where her dad could be telling her the worst about me.
But the text I sent her wasn’t very vague. Reign is a smart girl, and she knows what her Star meant when he said sorry and then she saw her dad coming back later.
If she didn’t figure it out now, she will soon.
While Malcom limped away, I made sure all the other guys were dead and I left them there. Bulgaria’s fucking police and Malcom’s team can deal with it.
