She pats me on the shoulder as we head to the door. My phone beeps with a text. I stop, pulling it out. Dr. Wright bids me goodnight and leaves.

I roll my eyes when I see who it’s from.

EVAN: I’m almost finished entering grades. Wanna grab a pizza after class?

The asshole is still in the building.Great.

My belly growls, and I realize I forgot to eat dinner.Pizza sounds really good.

ME: Ok. Meet you in your office in a few.

EVAN: Ok.

Sliding my phone into my backpack, I exit the classroom. Uneasiness courses through me, and the hair stands up on the back of my neck.

I turn my head to the right, my muscles coiling as my eyes lock on the man wearing a Ghostface mask at the end of the hallway. He’s wearing a black tee and sweatpants like the guy from the woods.

Fear courses through me as I turn in the opposite direction, sprinting down the hallway. As I push through the stairwell doorway, I risk checking to see where he is.

Shit. He’s chasing me.

I let the door slam behind me, gripping the railing as I flee down the steps.

My breaths heave from my lungs as I exit the stairwell and head to Evan’s office.

I’m nearly hysterical as I burst through his office door without knocking. He jumps up from his chair, his wide eyes locked on mine, as I slam and lock the door behind me.

“Lexi, what the hell?” Within seconds, he’s in front of me. His firm, warm hands grip me as I shake, disbelief and fear taking a toll on me. “What happened?”

I stare at him, speechless., as the blood drains from my face. My theory about the man wearing the Ghostface mask being Evan is wrong.

I open my mouth, but nothing comes out.

Evan wraps his arms around me, holding me tightly as I tremble in his embrace.

Who the hell did I have sex with in the woods?

CHAPTER 35

Evan

Lexi’s look of panic and fear makes me smile as I crush her against my chest. She’s rattled, completely thrown off my trail. I know she was starting to suspect that I was the one wearing the Ghostface mask.

“Tell me what happened.”

Lexi pulls away from me, wiping the tears from her eyes. She draws in a shaky breath. “I was standing outside the classroom, reading your text, when I felt like someone was watching me. I turned my head, and there stood a man wearing a Ghostface mask.”

“A Ghostface mask?” My brows shoot up. “You mean, like the guy from the woods?”

She nods, still clinging to me.

My jaw clenches. “I’m going after the motherfucker.”

“No.” Lexi grabs my arm, nails digging into my shirt. “You can’t just go searching for some maniac wearing a mask. What the hell is wrong with you?”

I look down at her hand, then into her eyes. “Lexi, it’s fine. If a masked man is chasing you, I’ll fuckinghim.”

“No, Evan. It’s not worth the risk.” She bites her lip, concern on her face.
