It’s Thursday evening, and I’m heading to my only night class this semester. As I carry my coffee toward Stevenson, I’m grateful it finally stopped raining.
As I walk down the second-floor hallway toward my Sociology class, I glance up and nearly spit out my coffee when I see Evan’s tall form strolling toward me.What the hell is he doing here?
“Hey, Lexi.” His eyes travel down me appreciatively before meeting my eyes again. “You look lovely.”
I glance down at my white capri pants and jade tank top. “Thanks.” A blush heats my cheeks from his compliment.
I gesture at the blue, silky-looking shirt and black trouser pants he’s wearing. “Do you always dress up for office hours?”
He chuckles. “No, bellissima. I had a meeting and figured I’d stay late to finish some work.”
“Oh.”
Evan grins at me. “Come on. I’ll walk you to class.” He tries to grab my arm, but I jerk away from his grip.
“I’m capable of walking myself there, thank you,” I hiss, annoyed at his behavior. My eyes dart around. “Besides, what will people think of me hanging out with my professor?”
He chuckles, shaking his head. “It’s not like I was going to hold your hand. Besides, there’s no one around.”
“So what? I can’t be seen with you.” I huff out a breath as I walk toward my classroom, annoyed when he falls in step with me.
He raises his eyebrow, smirking at me.“Is that right?” A challenge beams from his eyes.
Grabbing my arm, he drags me down the hall before shoving me against the wall. His raspy voice is against my ear, sending shivers down my spine. “There’s no one around to see you with me.”
One hand goes around my neck while the other tucks my hair behind my ear before he drags his tongue up the side of my neck.
My breathing is heavy, my palms are sweaty, and my knees are shaking. His hand around my throat is a warning, holding me in place, showing he has power over me.
Even though he doesn’t need to wrap his hand around my throat to prove that.
But I sure as hell am not going to tell him that.
He steps back, his charcoal eyes like hot coals, incinerating me. I try to appear unaffected, but his smug smile tells me he damn well knows the effect he has on me.
He nods his head behind him. “Your classroom is right there, Lexi. Good luck concentrating.” Then he turns around and strolls down the hallway like he owns the place.
“Fucking bastard,” I mumble to his retreating back.
Pushing off the wall, I head inside, revenge on my mind.
CHAPTER 34
Alexis
After shoving my laptop inside my backpack, I look up and smile at my Sociology professor before heading toward the door.
“Lexi. Can I talk to you for a second?” Dr. Wright asks with a smile.
Shock registers on my face as I wonder why she’s pulling me aside. “Umm… sure.”
She waits until the last student exits before she turns her full attention on me. “It’s nothing bad. I appreciate your enthusiasm and interest in the course you displayed during class and wanted to point out that we have a Sociology minor if you’re interested.”
Relief loosens my tense muscles. “It’s ironic you’re saying that. I read the first couple of chapters and reviewed the syllabus before class. The content was so interesting that I looked at the minor requirements on the website.”
“That’s great. I’d be happy to be your minor advisor, so let me know if you decide to do it.”
I beam at her. “Okay. Thanks, Dr. Wright. I appreciate it.”
