A bitter laugh rolls from her lips as she turns her head to me, brows raised. “You’re gonna take the moral high ground after the stunt you pulled in your office? Doesn’t that make you a hypocrite?”

I level her with a look. “It’s entirely different. Despite how much you protest, I know you want me.”

She grabs her water and takes a drink. “Or maybe it just helps you sleep better at night to tell yourself bullshit like that when you’re no better than he is.”

“Watch yourself, Lexi,” I growl, my eyes burning into hers. “One could say you’re a hypocrite, too.”

“Just because my body reacts to your touch doesn’t mean anything.”

“I think the lady doth protest too much. Especially after coming all over my face.” I pick up my glass of water and drain it. “Are you finished with dinner? I can move your dresser for you.”

Surprise transforms her face. “You remembered.”

“Sorry I didn’t do it after dinner with our parents. You escaped to your room, and I figured you didn’t want to be bothered.” I lean forward, my hand cupping her chin. “I don’t forget anything when it comes to you, bellissima.”

CHAPTER 32

Alexis

I’m nervous as hell when I walk into Professor Huntley’s Biology class. I’m grateful Sophia is in this class with me, or I’d be falling apart.

“It’ll be okay, Lexi. Huntley has beef with Evan, but I doubt he’ll mess with you.”

“Are you kidding? That’s the perfect way to get Evan fired up.” I cringe, realizing I sound less like I hate Evan and more like I’m concerned for him.

She winks at me. “Not if you act like you hate Evan. You do a really good job in Psychology.”

I glare at her. “How was spending the night at Trent’s?”

The smile immediately disappears from Sophia’s face as she jabs me in the side with her elbow. My eyes lock with Huntley’s dark ones as I follow behind Sophia. I force a smile on my lips. He leers at me, making me uncomfortable.

“That was a necessity. I’m being stalked.” She sets her backpack on the desk before unzipping it and pulling out her laptop. “I feel safe with him. Have you ever seen him fight?”

“I know Evan came home with cuts and bruises on his face that were courtesy of Trent.”

“Yeah, they spar in the ring.” She grins at me. “Trent had bruises and cuts from Evan, too.”

I shake my head. “I’ll never understand men and their barbaric behavior.”

Sophia laughs. “Same, girl.” She lowers her voice, looking around the room. “Although, it is kinda hot.”

I can’t deny that. Just the thought of watching Evan fight turns me on more than I care to admit.

I glance in Professor Huntley’s direction as I pull my laptop from my backpack. “How was last night? Was Trent overbearing or anything?”

Sophia chews on her lips before she quietly answers, “No. He was supportive and sweet. He asked his friend, Ryker, to trace the number my stalker uses. Hopefully, we can figure out who the culprit is.”

“Do you feel safe staying in your apartment tonight?”

She averts her eyes. “I may stay at Trent’s again.”

Trent lives in the same apartment building as us, while Sophia lives in Farley Hall, across campus and adjacent to where her stepbrother, Owen, lives.

I don’t question her, even though I’m pretty sure she wants to stay with Trent because she’s crushing on him.

Just like you are with Evan.

I scowl at my laptop, annoyed at my thoughts.
