“What the fuckare you waiting for?” Jace demanded as he faced off with Caleb on the edge of the science building on campus the following day.
I jogged over to them, irritated out of my fucking mind.
“What are you dickheads yelling for?” I snarled, glaring at the pair. “You trying to cause a fucking scene?”
Caleb shot me a sour look but didn’t say anything.
“This asshole hasn’t given Lily the tokens for the party. Olivia is still out there trying to procure them.” Jace shot a glare at Caleb who had the decency to look ashamed.
“What’s going on? Why didn’t you give them to her?” I asked.
“I forgot,” he muttered.
“Forgot? How the hell did you forget?” I shook my head at him. “Give me the tokens. I’ll make sure she gets them.”
“No.” Caleb brushed my open hand aside. “I’ll do it tonight. It’s not a big deal.”
“I’d say it’s a big deal.” Jace sighed and raked his fingers through his hair. “She needs them to get into the fucking party. They only let those with tokens in. No token, no party. Lily doesn’t have a token, ergo,no fucking party. It’s a simple enough concept.”
“I’ll give them to her tonight, OK? Chill. I’m seeing her for our movie night.”
I ground my teeth at Caleb’s words. I knew he was close with Lily. Everyone knew it. I hated he was adored by her while I was just some piece of shit she hated over things I had no control over.
“Every fucking night is movie night with you two,” Jace grumbled, backing away. “I hate that shit.”
“Jealous?” Caleb challenged.
Jace scowled at him but didn’t come back with a retort. Truth be told, we were both jealous of what Caleb already had. I didn’t want to come forward and tell Caleb I was certain he’d be ableto snag Lily without having to go through all this, but the selfish prick inside me decided against it.
“Just get the tokens to her,” I said. “If you don’t, I’ll do it. The party is this weekend.”
“I know. I’ll get it done.” Caleb pulled his phone out and stared down at it for a moment. “I have to go. Lily needs help moving her art stuff back to her apartment.”
“I’ll go.” Jace pushed Caleb aside.
“Why the hell do you think you should go?” I stepped forward to block Jace.
“Well, she hates your ass and Caleb always gets to be with her. I’d say I’m next in line.”
“You? She broke up with you.” I shook my head. “You had to devise this entire plan in order to get her. I’d say you’re at the bottom of the list.”
“Fuck you, Damien. She gives a shit about me. I’m going. I need to do this.”
I shot a look to Caleb who rolled his eyes.
“She textedme, Jace. How are you going to just go in there and volunteer?” Caleb asked.
I gave Jace a smug smirk and crossed my arms over my chest, waiting for his answer.
“Easy. I was in the area and saw her. Just tell her you’re busy and will be late. It’ll give me a chance.”
Caleb studied him for a moment before nodding and sending off the message to her.
Jace grinned and shot me a wink.
“Why would you do that for him?” I called out to Caleb.
“Because I expect you dicks to help me out with her too,” Caleb answered. “Although, I think I really am in a better position than either of you.”
