I smiled. “Oh, my boo bear is a softie.”

“Mm, the softest, baby.”

I shifted and rested my head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat. He twined his fingers with mine.

“I may have to do some really bad things while I’m gone,” he said after a long moment of silence.

“I know,” I answered softly.

“I don’t want you to hate me.”

“I’ll never hate you.”

“Fuck, I love you, Bianca. I don’t want you to think that my being gone will change anything. I’m coming back for you. For the guys. We’re ending this so we can all be together.”

I nodded wordlessly, my throat tight.

He grew quiet for a moment before he spoke in a fierce whisper.

“We all have a part to play in this world. If mine is to die for you, I will do so with a smile on my face and your name on my lips. That’s a promise.”

I blinked away my tears.

“I’d do it for you too,” I whispered.

He hugged me tightly and placed a kiss atop my head. “I know, bumblebee, and that’s what drives my nightmares. It’s why I need to leave to save you.”

“If it ever came down to me or you and the guys, I would choose you all every single time,” I said, my voice laced with my truth. “No matter what it is, I’ll do it.”

“It won’t come to that.”

We both went quiet again, listening as the creek trickled in the background and the birds sang.

My words were my truth, though.

Once I figured out how to end this shit faster and get my guys to safety, I’d do it. Same with my babies. We deserved a happy ending, and I’d damn well kill for it if I had to.

CHAPTER 28

Levin

My phone buzzedin my pocket as we all sat around the dinner table later that night. Fucking Bianca out on the patio had made my day. We’d not been able to be alone in what felt like forever, and I’d really needed the pick-me-up after accepting Drake into the group.

Bianca Walker was my entire fucking world. She needed to understand that. I had no idea when I’d get the call to leave, but I knew it would be soon.

I pulled the phone from my pocket, my insides turning to ice.

My father’s name flashed across the screen.

“Levin.” Dom stared at me, halting the conversation at the table.

I breathed out.

“I need to take this.” I got to my feet, catching Bianca’s eye. Her fear was palpable. All I wanted to do was hold her and tell her it was going to be OK, but I knew Dom and the guys would do it for me. They’d have to.

I quickly left the room and went to the patio to answer the call.

“Hello,” I answered gruffly.
