CHAPTER 14

Drake

Fallon looked like shit.

Like he’d gone ten rounds with a heavyweight champ in the ring and had lived to tell the tale. Doc Alan came in and proclaimed him fucked up but not near death before Dom handed him a wad of cash, then he left.

Ethan drugged him up after I’d helped him shower and clean the blood off him. Cole bandaged his bigger wounds and wrapped his ribs before Fallon settled into bed.

“You’re a brave son of a bitch,” I murmured, sitting on the edge of his bed.

He gave me a weak smile. “I’d do anything for her and the babies.”

I swallowed thickly. He wasn’t lying there.

“You’ll make a good dad, Fallon.”

His lashes fluttered, and his smile grew a bit more across his bruised and battered face. “I hope so.”

“You will.” I looked down at my hands as the silence blanketed us.

“Drake?”

“Yeah?”

“Tell her how you feel. It’s worth it,” he mumbled.

I let out a soft, sad laugh. “So I can end up beaten nearly to death?”

“No, so you can come home too, brother.”

My chest tightened at his words.

Home.

I hadn’t had one in a long time. Vincent had offered it to me. Fuck, I wanted it, but what would Dominic say? Or Levin? I’d probably end up worse than Fallon.

“Don’t overthink it. Just go to her,” Fallon mumbled.

“Get some rest, you damn bad influence.”

He let out a soft laugh, his eyes closed. I stayed at his side until he fell into a deep, sound sleep before I got up and wandered out of his room. I didn’t really have anywhere to be. I wasn’t part of any one group. I was just the guy who flitted between them all.

I sat outsidebeneath the stars, staring up at the universe, my body calm but my soul in turmoil. I’d been out here for an hour now, my mind reeling and my heart broken.

As much as I wanted to go to Bianca and tell her how I felt, I held back. Maybe I was scared she’d tell me to get bent. Maybe I was scared she wouldn’t, and I’d end up on Dom’s shit list.

I sighed as I picked out constellations.

“Hey,” Vincent’s voice pulled me from my morose thoughts.

I looked over at him, and my heart jumped into my throat. Bianca stood at his side, clutching his hand.

“Hey,” I answered, my voice low. I checked behind them to not see anyone else in the darkness. “What are you guys doing?”

“Dom and Levin went to bed. Fallon is out. Figured B and I would take a little stroll,” Vincent answered, a hitch in his voice that made me suspect he was hoping he’d find me out here.

I gestured to the chairs next to me around the unlit fire pit. “Have a seat if you’d like. I’m just looking at stars.”
