“All good?”

“Yeah. Shit’s filled with people.”

“You should probably let them go,” Anson said to Everett.

“You know I can’t,” Everett hissed from the floor.

Anson cocked his head. “I’ll give you seventy-two hours to free them. Then I’ll be back to do it myself. Send my regards to Dante. . . or I can tell him myself when I slit his throat.”

Anson released Everett and walked away without batting a lash, leaving Everett on the floor, gasping for breath. We followed him out to his car and piled inside.

Anson started the car without a word, and we drove off.

“What the fuck was that?” I finally asked.

“The Underground.” Anson stared straight ahead, a muscle popping along his jaw.

“Yeah, but why were we there?” I demanded. “There was no purpose for us to be down there looking for anything. It was fucking hell.”

“Because it’s my new kingdom, and my men should know what we’re dealing with.” He tightened his hands on the wheel.

“Your new kingdom?” Drake asked, frowning from the backseat.

Anson nodded. “I acquired it in an exchange with Everett several months ago. I agreed to let him continue to run it, but I have suspicions on what he’s keeping locking up down there.”

“I got the pictures,” Drake muttered. “Just like you wanted.”

I looked back at Drake. “You’re kidding me. You two fucks had the photo thing planned? Didn’t think I should know you were looking for someone? You don’t keep me in the fucking dark like that, man. Ever. I don’t work like that.” I punched the dash. “Who the fuck were you looking for?”

“I don’t know,” Anson said softly. “I just. . . had to know.”

I sighed as Anson’s phone rang. Rosalie’s name came up on the screen.

“Hey, LeeLee,” Anson said, his voice holding so much affection in it that it made me glance back at Drake, who gave me a knowing look.

“Yeah. I’ll be there in about an hour. No.” He let out a soft laugh. “Of course, songbird. I’ll see you then. Bye.”

He hung up and continued to stare straight ahead.

“Loving her is going to get your ass killed,” I muttered to him.

“A glorious death in the name of what I love. Can’t think of a better way to go,” he answered back softly before humming some song I didn’t recognize.

We were all fucked here in the fold, it seemed.

CHAPTER 37

Dominic

“Welcome,”I said, stepping aside for Enzo and the horsemen. They stepped into my safe house and looked around.

“Nice place,” Cole murmured. “Fuck, look at the size of that TV.”

I chuckled at him as he went into the living room to survey it. We all followed in and sat down on the various furniture. I took a seat in one of the chairs. Vin and Fallon were already seated, and Bianca was upstairs napping. Stella was holed up in her room, where she’d been since we got here, finally giving us some space. She claimed she was on vacation and wasn’t going to come out until she slept away all the stress we had her under. So far, she’d held to her word.

“You seem pretty secure out here,” Fox commented, looking around. “We had a hard time finding it even with the directions you gave.”

“Yeah, good,” I said.
