A hand wound around my neck and squeezed, stifling my air.
“Do not fight me,” Klaus’s voice met my ears. “You will not win.”
Panic raced through me. I fought against him anyway, my elbow meeting his rock-hard abs. He let out a grunt and tightened his hold on my throat until I had no way to breathe.
The panic kicked up, and the strength left my body. I sagged back against him, my vision dotted with stars and a ring of darkness touching the edges.
“Do not fight me,” he repeated softly in my ear, his breath tickling my neck. “If you fight, you will die.”
Tears streamed down my cheeks, my body too weak to fight him. The babies kicked in my belly.
They need air. Please. We need air.
He released my throat, and I gulped in a mouthful of air, my chest heaving.
It was short-lived because a pinprick met my neck, sending blinding heat through my body.
“No,” I whispered, my voice trembling. “Please. . .”
“Shh, little one,” he murmured, holding me tightly.
My body felt like jello inside. I couldn’t move.
“Feel that? Let the drugs in,” he continued softly.
I could only breathe, but it felt like I couldn’t draw in a full breath.
“There you go.” He lifted my limp body into his arms.
I could barely hold my eyelids open as he walked with ease through the darkening forest, whistling like this wasn’t a big deal as we went.
I had no idea where we were going or what would happen when we got there. I could only pray that Dominic and my guys were safe from whatever awaited me.
CHAPTER 44
Dominic
I openedmy eyes with a groan, my head pounding. The light buzzed overhead, the smell of mildew meeting my nostrils.
Groaning, I lifted my head to see I was in a warehouse, tied to a chair with Fallon next to me.
“Fal-Fallon,” I rasped. “W-wake up.”
Fallon grunted before his lashes fluttered, and he peered around through swollen eyelids.
“Where are we?” He let out a groan, his head probably feeling as horrible as mine did.
I thought for sure we’d be dead, so waking up was a surprise.
“Fucked,” Matteo’s voice called out. “You’re fucked, boys.”
I struggled against my bindings and glared out at the man whom I’d once called my father. Everything I’d ever failed at came crashing back into me. I’d failed in protecting Bianca and our babies, and now I was forced to live through this fucking hell again.
Please be safe, my love. Fuck. Please.
“Where’s Vin?” I demanded.
“Vincent? Oh, don’t worry about him.” Matteo waved me off and settled into the chair across from me. “He’s been taken care of.”
