“I don’t know.” I shrugged, dragging my gaze from his. “What do you want to do?”
“Scary movies at Lana’s,” Noah said, flopping down next to Lana and opening his chocolate milk.
“Do you have bionic hearing?” She raised an eyebrow at him.
His winked at her and then stuffed his slice of pizza into his mouth before chugging his milk. She rolled her eyes and turned her attention back on me.
“Scary movies at my place then. You in?”
“Sure. Are you going to have popcorn or something this time? Last time, we didn’t have any snacks,” I pointed out. “We had to share my pack of bubble gum."
“Yeah, last time fucking sucked,” Noah said, nodding. “For one thing, I’m not a fan of grape flavored gum, so Grace, please don’t bring that shit.” He shot me a look that made me laugh before he peered back at Lana. “You know what would be hella better than Grace’s stale bubble gum?”
“What?” Lana asked, suppressing a smile.
“Ice cream. Let’s make sundaes. I’ll bring everything. You girls in?”
“Sounds tasty.” I laughed again. “I’m definitely in. I want caramel topping though.”
He reached out and high-fived me. “Hell yeah. Who’s bringing the pizza?”
“I will,” Logan’s voice broke in.
I looked up at him in surprise. I hadn’t seen him approach.
“Uh, Logan?” I crinkled my brows as I stared up at his towering form.
“I mean, if it’s cool with you guys. I’d love to come. Grace is supposed to hang out with me tonight—”
“No, I’m not.” I frowned, which only caused him to roll his eyes.
“Yes, you are. Remember? We talked about it in chem class on Monday. I said you were hanging out with me, and you didn’t say no.”
“Mr. Benson started teaching so I didn’t get a chance to set you straight,” I huffed at him.
Lana and Noah looked between us, both smiling at our exchange.
“Gracie,” he admonished, taking a lock of my hair between his fingers and twirling it as he loomed over our table, his presence larger than life. “You had all week to turn me down. The way I see it,wehave a date, sweetheart.”
Noah let out a laugh, and even Lana chuckled.
“You can come, Logan,” Lana said, ignoring my look of protest. “We’d love to have you.”
“Awesome. Grace, I’ll see you later.” He started to move away but stopped, snapping his fingers like he was remembering something. “Oh, I forgot. Here.” He pulled a blue and white jersey out of his bag and handed it to me.
“What’s this?” I frowned down at the material.
“It’s my practice jersey. I want you to wear it today. It supports the team and your dad. You know how big tonight’s game is. Besides, all the girls wear them.”
“I don’t wear them,” Lana said.
Noah nudged her.
“Uh, Logan…” I got to my feet and gripped his hand, dragging him away from my table. “What are you doing? I don’t want your jersey,” I hissed.
“Please? The players are allowed to let someone wear their practice jersey on game day for support. I never cared to ask anyone before. But it feels right to ask you.”
“Are you fucking kidding me? You could literally ask any girl in this school and she’d wear it. Hell, I bet you could ask Noah. I’m sure he’d do it.”
