After everything my hacker was able to glean about Headmaster Mikhail, she wouldn’t risk returning to The Academy, right?

“I mean, I’m sure she had connections everywhere, no? We can’t use this information to find her.” Benedikt was always staying on the problem at hand, but sometimes he missed the bigger picture.

I started thinking, my genius mind running different outcomes through my head.

Me: She would’ve turned to a more recent contact, because calling in a favor out of the blue is not the way we connect businesses.

I could only think of one family she had ties to that would help her. Not because I didn’t believe that she had a community she could lean upon, but because she was family.

Her blood was theirs, which was why I couldn’t trust her in the first place. But I did love her, which was why I was working on getting her back. I could grovel for a bit. Then she would settle into the submissive role I set out for her.

Me: The Italians have to be helping her, right? Her uncle was the late Don. We both know that Mateo facilitated the Don’s death.

“We don’t know that for sure,” Benedikt murmured, still typing on his phone.

Me: But the suspicion is there, and with our peace treaty on shaky grounds, I don’t want to waste any more time.

My little assassin was in danger and I was going to get her out.

We finally reached our destination, and it hit me that this wild pursuit I was on – where I was overcome with intense arousal – had a different purpose than what I initially believed. As we approached the looming building in the distance that had a bus parked in the back, I knew this was the place, and my revelation only became clearer.

It was time to bring my woman home.

CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE

Valentina

“Oh fuck,” I groaned, rubbing my forehead as I got up.

I tried to focus my blurry vision, but the room continued to spin. When I finally managed to sit up, I found myself in a luxurious bedroom with soft, silky sheets and plush pillows. The sound of a soothing and expensive air purifier filled the room. As the memories flooded back, I could feel the panic rising in my chest. Don Mateo had rescued me from my captor, and now we were on the run.

“Do you think he’s following us?” Don Mateo asked, his dark eyes scanning over my disheveled appearance.

I swatted his hands away. “Of course he is, but I haven’t been able to find the damn thing. Don’t think I haven’t tried.”

Mateo frowned. “Turn around.”

I turned to give him my back, even though my instinct was to keep it against the wall. The hotel we’d driven to wasn’t far away, but if we didn’t get the tracker off of me, I wouldn’t be able to get away from Roman anyway.

“Fuck,” Mateo muttered.

“What is it? What’s wrong?” His fingertips traced along my spine and I shuddered.

It was clear that there was nothing romantic about the situation. I dared not move as he meticulously inspected my entire back. When I believed his inspection was complete, he let out a stream of profanities under his breath.

“You have a tracker so close to your spine, I’m not sure how I could remove it.” The anger barely masked the fear in his voice.

“There’s an alternative method for shutting off the signal. However, we need to complete my task as quickly as possible, because there is still a risk of it transmitting.” I glanced back at the Don, waiting for his response.

“What is it?” He ran a hand through his tousled hair.

“Do you have a Taser or a stun gun?”

He frowned, “N-nooo. My guard may have one.”

“Can you go check?” I barely gave him time to finish his sentence.

He nodded, his expression still puzzled as he made his way towards the hotel door. The guard remained stationed there while Don Mateo swiftly took away his weapon without any protest. I couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like to possess such authority and control over others.
