All three of us laughed and the tension in the air dissipated.

“Just no mushy shit around me, okay?” Julian said but then opened his arms. “C’mon, bring it in you two.”

The three of us hugged.

Finally, I had my girl and it was no longer a secret.

A week later,I was already shopping for a ring. Mila moved in with me only a few days after we told Julian and I couldn’t wait any longer to ask her to marry me. I dragged Julian along with me to give me some pointers on what his sister liked.

Then I planned the surprise. It wasn’t hard with Mila’s birthday coming up, along with a few of my guys helping me out, and a couple of the women at the spa. I picked up a cake from the bakery in town and wrapped up the ring in a box, before putting it in another box, and then another, until several boxes were layered in and I wrapped the final big one.

After a home made dinner, I took her out the back porch, which was now decorated with string bulb lights, rose petals, and a bottle of champagne on ice on the table. The cake and gift sat beside it along with two champagne flutes.

“Happy birthday, my gorgeous girl.” I cupped her face with my hands and kissed her deeply.

“Aw, Rowan, you didn’t have to do all this. Dinner was enough.”

“I know, but I wanted to. You deserve it. You deserve the world.”

She kissed me again and then hurried over to the table like a little kid on Christmas. “Mmm, cake!”

“I’d like you to open your gift first.”

“Okay.”

As she unwrapped box after box and laughed in between, I took pictures of her beauty and captured the moment on my camera. When she finally got down to the engagement ring, her mouth fell open. I was already down on one knee. “Will you marry me, Mila?”

“Of course I will! Of course!” She gasped and pulled me to my feet. I slid the ring on her finger and we kissed more.

“I love you.”

“I love you, too.”

We popped the bubbly and sliced the cake.

I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect evening.

Soon, my girl would be my wife.

EPILOGUE

Mila

Six months later

The weather couldn’t have been moreperfect for my wedding day. The sun was shining, a cool breeze rustled the trees, the heat from the summer finally breaking.

If it were up to Rowan, we would’ve been married the day after he proposed but I wanted time to plan.

Lacey and Sadie from the spa have become two of my closest friends. And since they both had weddings of their own to plan, we all decided to join forces and do it together. And be each other’s bridesmaids.

Now as I stood in our own backyard, before all of our friends in town, my brother and our mother, and Rowan’s parents, and I looked up into Rowan’s face, I never felt as much love as I did in that moment.

“I now pronounce you husband and wife.” The justice of peace said and Rowan grabbed my head and pulled me in for a long, deep, earth shattering kiss. The crowd cheered and so did we when finally stopped kissing.

How did I get so damn lucky?

Leaving a shitty relationship after being cheated on to then meeting the man of my dreams shortly thereafter while living in a new town, who would’ve ever guessed this is where I’d be?
