An unexpected sound startled her. She jumped when their perfect moment was shattered by a knock at the door. She looked at the clock. It was after nine. Who on earth was here?
"Is someone here?" Cash asked with a confused expression on his face.
There was another knock at the door and Cash got off her, confusion still clouding his face.
Then to her horror she heard keys in the door. There were only two people who had keys to her house. Her sister, who would have seen Cash's truck in the drive and left. Or....
"Evie?" she heard her mother's voice call as the door opened. Fuck.
"Is that your mother?" he whispered roughly at her as he got off her and she scrambled off the bed. She nodded and froze with panic.
"Evie? Are you upstairs?"
Cash looked at her with panic in his eyes and quickly got under the covers.
"Yes, I'll be right down," she called out.
"What is your mother doing here?" he whispered.
"I don't know," she said, scrambling to put something on. "Stay here, I'll get rid of her."
After she had pulled on some sleep shorts and tank top, she headed downstairs.
"Mom, what are you doing here?" she asked.
"You wouldn't answer my calls."
"Because I don't want to talk to you. I'm not sure why you thought it would be a good thing to show up."
"Your sister told me Bryan is off the guest list. Why?"
She made it down the stairs and her mother was in her living room, glaring at her.
"Because I don’t want him there, and while you don't seem to respect my wishes, my sister does."
"That's ridiculous. He's like family."
"No, he's not. He's my ex-boyfriend."
"I just don't see why he can't be there."
" I'm not having this discussion with you right now. I need you to leave."
Her mom looked around and seemed to take note of the clothes that she and Cash had ripped off each other before having the hottest sex of her life in her living room.
"Is there someone upstairs?"
"Yes." This seemed like one of those moments where honesty was the best policy, hopefully it would be enough to get her to leave.
"Who?"
"Who? Cash. Who else do you think it would be?"
"Evie, what is going on with you?" she whispered in a harsh voice. "First you tell your sister to tell me Bryan can't come, and now I come here and find a strange man in your bed. I’ve seen some pictures and I assure you, he’s not the man you think he is."
“I know exactly who he is,” Evie said to her mother anger rising.
Her mother stared at her with her moth gaping open, like she had just pulled out an ace only for Evie to not give two shits.
