Levi caressed my face with his hand as he wiped away my unshed tear with his thumb. “We don’t need to talk about your brothers now, Tesoro. You have a long day tomorrow, and I don’t want you to get all worked up, okay?” he said, and I nodded, with a soft sniffle.

“I have to get going… I want you to get some rest, all right?” he muttered, and I nodded again, ready to bid him goodnight, but I had one more request.

“Goodbye kiss,”I whispered, and he pulled me closer, placing a small kiss on my lips as I savored his taste one last time before he left.

He pulled away, and I bid him goodbye as I walked him to the door of my apartment. Once he’d left, I was pulled out of my thoughts as I felt a little nudge at my leg. I looked down to see Grayson weaving back and forth through my legs, and I groaned. “You are still in big trouble, mister! This is not going to make me forgive you.”

He looked up at me, feigning innocence, and I sighed heavily as I picked him up, causing him to snuggle into my side.

“Who am I kidding? I forgave you outside,” I muttered, kissing his head as I walked back over to my room to get ready for bed.

“If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you were actually trying to steal my job,” Dr. Woods said as we exited the OR.

It was only three PM, but he had already dragged me to about six of his cases for the day. I was shocked to hear he had asked for me to join him once again today, but I was even more excited when he let me deliver one of the natural births practically on my own.

I had to keep from jumping up and down to seem professional, but I was ecstatic! Many of the other physicians had taken a liking to my work as well and even gave me their information to visit them and shadow them if I was ever free.

“Thank you, sir,” I said, laughing.

He looked at his watch. “I think I should be kind and let you go home early… or I could have you reorganize the drawers in my office. But I’ll be nice and let you go. Don’t get used to it. You have a full day in the gynecology clinic tomorrow, but I mightpull you and take you to the other resident physician cases if there’s nothing to do there.”

“Thank you so much, Dr. Woods! See you tomorrow!” I said happily, and he nodded as we bid goodbye, and I made my way to the locker room. My smile was permanently plastered on my face as I had to stop myself from jumping out of pure joy again.

Upon opening the door, I jumped as a hand came from behind and pushed it wider. I turned around quickly, and my eyes went wide as Alec was standing before me. He didn’t exactly look like he woke up on the right side of the bed. He looked enraged and slightly terrifying.

“A-Alec. Hi,” I said as I didn’t even think to mention that he shouldn’t be in the girls’ locker room.

“You are such a little slut,”he muttered, entering the locker room and causing me to take a few steps back. My words were caught in my throat as he degraded me. “Running around the hospital and doinganythingyou can to get the attention of these doctors. Do you think I’m stupid? Do you think I don’t know what you’re up to?”

Yes, I do think you’re very stupid.

I shook my head, standing my ground as I spoke. “Alec, if you are insinuating that I did anything other than study and work hard, then you’re wrong. Dr. Woods is only taking a liking to me because I’m hardworking… and all the other doctors and staff think the same.”

“And what about your littleboyfriend, hmm?” he asked, approaching me, and I didn’t say anything. “What would the staff say if they found out you’ve been dating a patient you’ve seen in the hospital?”

“I think they would say that it is specifically my business and not theirs or yours.”

“Not until they find out who exactly he is,”he whispered, though I had a bit of trouble hearing what he’d said. He backed me against the wall, and I bit my lip.

“Alec... please. I just want to go home,” I whispered.

He slowly ran his hand down my arm. “You’re such a little tease too. You know that?” he muttered, and I placed my hands against his chest and tried to push him away. He was stronger, obviously, so my attempts to get away were unsuccessful.

“Alec, stop,” I pleaded, and he bit his lip.

“Thinking about all the things I would do to you… all of the things Iwilldo to you... fucking drives me crazy.”

Upon hearing his words that sounded more like a dangerous promise than an empty threat, I had a surge of energy as I fully pushed him away, causing him to stumble slightly. Wordlessly, I finished grabbing the rest of my things as I exited the locker room while he simply watched me.

Chapter sixteen

Teegan

Entering my apartment, I let out a heavy sigh as I greeted my kitty and walked into the bathroom to take a shower. Grayson was by my feet, most likely noticing I wasn’t myself, and even lay on the bathroom rug as I got undressed.

Stepping into the shower, tears fell down my eyes as my perfect day… was simply ruined by Alec. I was so glad that the other doctors were happy with me and that my work was paying off only to be called aslut.

Blaming my success on sexual things he assumes I may have probably done rather than my actual skills or value I bring to the hospital. Threatening me, violating me… The worst part about it isno one can stop him. His father basically runs the city’s hospitals and medical schools. His connections are endless. What’s my word going to be against his?
