Diego doesn’t respond with words, just raises an eyebrow as if saying, “We’ll see.”
Dinner wasnice and the food was delicious. I’m absolutely stuffed. I ate way more than I should. Those might have been the best tacos I ever had.
It’s imperative that I keep my wits about me tonight. Liam has effectively gotten in my head. It would be awful if I ruined another night with my emotions.
Next up is a game ofHow well do you know your partner? We are supposed to couple off around the fire and then go over the answers collectively. This should be fun.
Those not in relationships have decided to play some poker that is set up on the patio. They moved the dining table to give more space for us to use. Liam, hearing the title of the game, was the first to take a seat at the poker table. Colin, Kieran, and Ryan followed right behind him.
Lainey has been MIA all night. Honestly, I haven’t seen her since our little blowout last night.
I take my seat on the oversized bean bag chair and dig my toes into the cool sand. There is a nice breeze tonight, making me snuggle in closer to Diego—who has his hand wrapped around my waist. He’s running his fingers up and down my ribcage, which is oddly relaxing. I’m finally feeling a bit better.
Papersand pens are passed around.
Diego sits up, claiming his paper and pen from my hands. “Let’s see here… Question one. What’s your partner's favorite TV show?” he speaks aloud.
A ping of anxiety hits me. We are going to fail this game miserably. I may know this man’s soul in and out, but I have no clue about aspects of his life like this.Fuck.
I jot down my answer as he moves on to the next question, having jotted down his answer almost immediately.
“Question two. Who said I love you first?” A smile forms on his face, knowing the answer, as do I. Sweet memories of our wedding night play on a reel in my brain. The two of us lying in bed together, him confessing his love for me, knowing it may be the last time he would get to say it.
“That was a special night.” I go to press a kiss to his cheek, but he turns in time to claim my lips. Passion flows out of him, rousing me. It wouldn’t be appropriate to straddle my man in front of everyone.Would it?
After taking my breath away, he releases me, shifting me so that I snuggle back into him. “It really was,” he agrees, kissing the top of my head.
“Question three,” I start. “What was your partner’s first impression of you?” I laugh to myself. This will be good.
We jot down our answers, taking longer than the last response.
“Question four,” he states, clearing his throat. “What is your partner's favorite drink?” We both look at each other before cracking up. Maybe we won’t fail this game as miserably as I thought.
We scribble out our answers.
“Question five,” I say. “What’s your partner's favorite season?”
“Easy,” he scoffs.
I smile inwardly.Am I that much of an open book?
Feeling pretty confident in my answer, I scrawl it down.
“Last question,” he confirms. “Who made the first move?” The corner of his lip raises, that dimple in his cheek on full display.
We collect our thoughts, writing them down and folding the paper in half.
Perfect timing. Lexi’s phone goes off signaling time is up.
Standing and dusting sand off her dress, she announces, “Okay, everyone. We are going to go over the answers now. I’ll read off the questions and I want you to go in a circle and read them aloud to the group.
“I feel like I am in therapy,” Killian murmurs beside us. Sel nudges him in the ribs.
The guys come over to us, chatting lively with each other. “Can we join? I’m sure these responses will be better than any reality TV show,” Kieran chuckles.
Liam’s eyes connect with mine as he takes a seat next to his brother.
Lovely.
