My eyes skim over the words of my book, but I can’t focus. I’ve been reading the same damn sentence for the last two minutes. The least I can do is text him, he deserves to know there is a bit of a change in the plan—in case Killian hasn’t told him.
Madison
Stop worrying. Little complication, that’s why I haven’t called sooner.
Liam
I’ll never stop worrying about your safety, Madison. What complication?
So he doesn’t know. Killian hasn’t told him about Geraldo, or about the fact that they are coming here for back up. Damn, Killian really is pissed at Liam. Those two need to make up. Whatever this spat is about, they need to reconcile. I type out a response about Killian and Selena coming here, leaving out Geraldo and his men arriving sooner than anticipated, when I realize Conor is with him. I don’t want Liam finding out from his best friend what’s going on. He should hear it from me. Deciding I need a minute to think of how to tell him without him freaking out, I head to the bathroom.
One look in the mirror has me washing my face and the mess of makeup smudged all over it. The drawers are filled with La Prairie skincare. All sorts of blue bottles with lip masks, serums and moisturizers. I slap on some under eye cream and nighttime regenerating moisturizer, and head back to the nook.
Worry plagues me as I take a peek at my phone and don’t see another message from Liam.
Fuck it, I’ll call him.Bringing the phone to my ear, I wait…but it never rings. It doesn’t even go to voicemail. Diego mentioned earlier his phone wasn’t receiving calls, maybe we have bad service here. I’ll try calling again before bed.
I’m about five chapters in, and just about to get to the highly anticipated sex scene, when a knock on the door jolts me out of fantasyland. Checking the time on my phone, I notice it’s been an hour since I spoke to Eloise about my tea.
Hmm. Maybe they forgot.
I practically skip to the door, excited for those cookies and my tea, and more than ready to get back to the scene I was just reading.
What—rather—whois standing on the other side of my door is not at all what I was expecting. Two sets of gorgeous eyes take in my face before dipping lower to my hardened nipples beneath this satin robe.
One set of brown.
One set of blue.
“Liam,”I gasp, utterly shocked. I stand there like an idiot, looking between him and Diego, the latter holding a tray with my tea and cookies.
He breezes past me and places the tray on my bed, snatches a cookie and takes a seat at the edge. “Well aren’t you going to say hi to yourboyfriend?” Diego says over a mouthful ofmychocolate chip cookies.
I spin around and rip the half eaten cookie out of his hands, wanting to smack him for his arrogance. Pointing to him and then the door, I scream, “You.Out.” Then like a tornado, I whip back around and find Liam still standing at the threshold of my door. “You. Get in here. You havea lotof explaining to do.”
Diego chuckles and brushes the crumbs from his shirt. He saunters over to me and snatches the cookie back out of my hand, popping the rest of it in his mouth like a chipmunk. “I knew you’d like these. Especially since you’ve started your period. I’ll be in my room if you need me. You know the one—right next door,” he says, shooting Liam a look. A look that has Liam gawking at me with so many questions.
“Get out!” I scream pointing to the door.
Liam steps in and closes the door behind him. His large frameleans against it looking delicious and livid as he crosses his legs at the ankles. Those muscular inked arms come up to do the same, resting against his chest. Heavy silence sits between us as his eyes roam every inch of my body, making me shiver with need and a little bit of fear. I’ve seen this look on him. It’s the same one he had in his office at The Triskelion. He’s going to lose control in about three, two?—
Liam rushes over, grips my face and kisses me hard, stealing the breath right out of my lungs. “You make me fucking crazy, Madison,” he growls, pulling my face back an inch to stare at me. He sighs and strokes his thumbs over my cheeks.
Instead of that making me swoon like it normally does, it makes me angry.Irrationally angry.I press my hands flat against his chest and push him back. Immediately, his posture shifts and his eyes narrow.
“What’s going on, love?” His eyebrow raises in question. “Not excited to see me?”
I sit down on the bed and pat the space next to me. He takes a seat and brings my hands to his lips. Pain and rejection lace his features.
“You promised me you wouldn’t do this. You told me you understood, that you would let me fly without you.” The words come out rushed and shaky. I am still processing the fact that he’s here right now. What the hell is Killian going to do when he finds out? He’s going to be here tomorrow.
“I know that. I never even got to my family in Ireland. I took the first flight to Mykonos after I landed. Killian knows. I told him—only after he admitted to being a total gobshite about everything.” He looks to the door and then back at me. “We don’t trust Diego.”
I pull my hands out of his hold. “He knows you’re here? You don’t even realize how much more complicated you just made this for you, Liam. Not only just for you, but everyone else. Geraldo is coming here any moment now. He’s decided to take a vacation with his men after the ambush. I also think he’s calling Diego’s bluff, waiting to see if he’ll slip up while around me.”
Liam’s hands nervously rake through his hair. “Fuck.”
“Yeah. Fuck is right…Liam,” I say, reaching for him and cupping my hand to his cheek. “You can’t be here. I know you thought you were doing the right thing trying to keep me safe, but this is ahugerisk. If Geraldo sees you…”
