Pressing a kiss to my lips he says, “If you need anything, call out for me.” He pulls the door behind him, keeping it slightly ajar.

Anxiously peeking through the crack in the door, and seeing Killian back in his seat, I slide my phone out from beneath the covers. Scrolling to Madison’s new number, I type out a text:

Selena

Girl. I could really use my bestie right now. Hope we are still able to talk like that. I miss you. ??

Hitting send, I crack open the water bottle and take a few small sips. I feel better now that I am lying down. My phone chimes and my stomach drops again for a whole other reason.Does she truly forgive me?Glancing down, I see the first few letters, and a smile spreads across my face.

Maddy

I miss you, too. ?? I told you I forgave you, Sel. And I meant that. After hearing how your brother kept you in the dark about the night we were taken, I can’t really blame you. With that being said, what’s up? Is everything okay with Killian?

Selena

Promise me what I am about to tell you, you won’t tell Kil… or Diego.

The bubbles pop up on my phone and then disappear. Then pop up again.

Maddy

Okay… I’m nervous now. I don’t think I can take any more bad news…

I bite on the tip of my acrylic nail.Just spit it out, Sel.I speed-type and hit send before chickening out.

Selena

I’m pregnant. I just found out this morning.

Maddy

What?! Selena!! That is amazing. Congratulations. Are you happy about this? What’s wrong with telling Killian? Your brother, I can understand… but Killian is going to be ecstatic.

Selena

Thanks, girl. I am excited…and nervous, too. Are we biting off more than we can chew? Especially right now? We just got back together. I selfishly wanted more time with him before we started building a family. And I’m not telling him because he’s super fucking stressed right now.

Maddy

I think the Universe sends us blessings exactly when we need them. Sometimes we don’t even know we need them until they present themselves. This baby is a gift from your mother, no doubt. Everyone has been at each other's throats and chaos has been unfolding on every corner. It’s your time to finally look forward to your future.

You’re safe now and by the end of all of this, you and Killian will get to enjoy the life you always wanted. Without fear of your Uncle Geraldo or anyone else threatening that dream. Everything just needs to go according to plan this time. Now I have even more of a reason to help end his reign.

Salty tears drip down my face and onto the pillowcase. Stupid hormones!See what I mean about Madison?How can you not love her? She is on a flight across the Atlantic with my brother. Her man is miles away, and yet,sheis comfortingmeright now.

The sudden urge to tell Killian strikes me. Madison gave me the perspective I needed. We live our lives so worried about the future, that we end up missing the important moments of the here and now.What if tomorrow never comes?Killian deserves to know he is going to be a father. I think I’ll tell him when we get back to New York.But how?

You are an angel, Mad. I hope you know that. Everything you say is always so comforting and inspirational. Even when your life is upside down, you still find it in you to make others feel better. I’m going to tell Killian when we get back to New York. Thank you for making me see that. Life is short. We all know this. Too well.

Maddy

Ahh! I am going to be an aunt! Killian is going to freak! My lips are sealed. Your brother won’t find out from me.

Selena

Speaking of lips… I know it’s not my place, and it’s probably really awkward that Diego is my brother… He’s being respectful to you, yes?
