I rub my fingers over my chin hair. “She would love to be. I’m just taking it day by day. You did say that she and I still have desires for each other. Perhaps I should try exploring them again.”

She shifts her weight and thrums her fingers along her arms.

I’m getting under her skin.

“That’s great. I’m happy for you, Killian. She and I have spoken a few times since her arrival, and I really like her.” She steps back, and my hand falls off her arm. “Listen, I wanted to thank you for letting me stay here…after everything. I know it’s been awkward. I never got to tell you how sorry I was that you found out the way you did.” Her eyes search mine for something. What that is? I’m not sure.

“It’s fine. I acted immaturely, barging in like that. When I heard you two going at it, I was upset. I knew you would go to him when you asked for space. I just didn’t expect to hear you fucking him after I kissed you in the hallway.” I shrug like it’s no big deal—but it was.I was gutted.

“I’m sorry, Killian. It’s all my fault. I should have never continued engaging with you online while I was still hurting from Liam’s loss. I wasn’t over him. I just thought by moving on, especially with someone who had gone through similar heartbreak—that I would forget him.”

“I understand,” I sigh. I don’t blame her.No one saw this coming.

“You and I created something beautiful. I don’t regret the months we had together. And I won’t let them be tarnished by this whole situation. I just hope we can all move on from this. You and Liam have such a great relationship. I would never forgive myself if I ruined that for you both,” she says softly.

I reach for her again. Then pull back, thinking better of it.

“Liam and I are fine. We talked about it like men and agreed there would be no bad blood. And for the record, I don’t hate you. You’ll always be the one who brushed the soot off my heart and shined it back up.”

A small smile forms on her face but doesn’t reach her eyes. “What time would you want us for dinner? I can talk to Liam about it when he comes home.”

“Figure around eight. We can have dinner and some drinks. The chefs are making us a special meal for Valentine’s Day.”

“That should work,” Madison nods in agreement.

“I would like to try and get this household to be a little less hostile and work on being a family again.”

“I hope for that too.” She grabs the flowers off her dresser and tries handing them to me. “You should give these to Selena. Don’t let her slip away again, Kil.”

My heart falls in my chest, knowing she wants me and Selena to work out. I take the flowers and rub her cheek with my thumb. “Alright. Thanks, love. I’ll see you both at dinner.”

* * *

I knockon Selena’s door. She opens it in nothing but a red satin bathrobe and a playful smile on her face.

Her hair is wet. She must have just gotten out of the shower. I always loved how she looked with no makeup—natural dark hair and tanned skin.

She’s sexy as hell.

Excitement fills her features as she takes in the flowers in my hand. I step into her room and close the door behind me.

“Happy Valentine’s Day.” I lean down and kiss her cheek, placing the flowers in her hand.I feel like a dick for not getting her anything.

“Thank you, Killian. These are beautiful.” She walks over to her nightstand and places them down before taking a seat on the bed. Selena pats the space next to her, inviting me to join her.

I hesitate for a moment. Being near her and a bed could be a bad combination. We’ve never been able to keep our hands off each other. I can already feel the sexual tension sizzling between us.

“I won’t bite,” she giggles.

I close the distance and sit next to her, leaving a bit of space between us.

“I wouldn’t mind if you did,” I laugh, falling back into our old ways.

“You never told me what happened between you, Liam and Madison. I assume after our night together and the accident, that things didn’t work out for you two. Madison has been sleeping in Liam’s room…so are they officially together? That doesn’t seem like the Liam I know.”

“They didn’t cheat on me like I thought they did.” Her face falls. She knows I had only used her that night as pain relief and a way to get back at them.

“Oh.” She plays with a nonexistent piece of lint on her robe.
