Are you home?

Paisley

Just eating dinner with my aunt. You?

Noah

Hanging out with my brothers. Call me when you’re done, okay?

“Who are you texting?”

I look up at Zane, the nosiest of us all. “None of your business.”

“Secrets?” He looks delighted. “Fun.”

I think about denying it for a second. But Paisleyisfun. “Yeah.”

And then my phone rings. I grin and stand up, grabbing my beer before I hit the answer button. “Hello. Hang on a second, I gotta find some privacy from my brothers.”

Now I have all of their attention.

Trick’s eyebrows go up.

Drew’s brow furrows.

And Zane stands up, too, following me as I head for the hall.

“How long are you going to be?” he shouts. “I’m making dinner tonight.”

“Hours,” I yell back.

When I press my phone back to my ear, Paisley is giggling. “Who was that?”

“My youngest brother. Not important.”

Zane hears that and swears at me.

“Your family is very important,” she says sweetly.

I grunt. “Usually, yes. Right in this moment, not so much. How was dinner?”

“My aunt watches TV at top volume, so…quick.”

“Ah. That doesn’t sound fun.”

“It’s not. But it’s free rent and she doesn’t mind if I lock myself in my room to talk to my professor about the orgasm I had on his desk.”

I close my bedroom door and lean back against it. “She might mind if she knew what the conversation was about.”

“Then it’s good that I know how to keep a secret, isn’t it?”

“Very, very good.”

She changes the subject. “So where exactly are you?”

“In my bedroom.”

She laughs again. “I mean, where is your ranch?”
