Page 76 of Forbidden Deception

Our breaths and cries echoing against in the four walls around us.

The slashes of the knife across our skin, The cries and bruises from him trying to touch us and kiss us.

Then the push from Medora.

Me scrambling to the floor towards the knife.

Medora sobbing.

My hand grasping the knife.

Ricco launching at Medora in rage.

And then, the knife stabbing into his neck.

And blood staining my hands.

I blink, and I am standing in front of Medora again. She has a vacant look in her eyes, but she’s smiling. A sad smile, possibly. A tortured one, maybe. The expression that I used to see in the mirror.

I know Remo helped her get out. I requested it personally, but we lost contact, and I didn’t know where she ended up.

“Don’t think about it. Don’t worry about it. Don’t ever stress over it, okay?” she whispers, grabbing my hands.

She feels so cold. Like a wandering ghost who has been seeking revenge on those who did it wrong.

“I’m thankful to have you, you know.” I glance down at our bloodied hands and swallow back my tears. “But I hate how our innocence has been tainted and ripped from us.”

Medora shakes her head and wraps an arm around my shoulders. Then she leads me out. Something falls behind us, but I don’t pay it mind.

We walk out of the building and onto the street; then Medora sees my car and stops.

Scorching heat flares at my back, and I whip around and gasp. Flames lick up the building, the sight terrifying and absolutely horrific, and then it hits me.

She dropped a lighter and burnt all traces of the body and our DNA, so nothing would be left behind.

“Feeling a muffin?” I question, looking away from the fire, knowing what could be awaiting us soon. Remo won’t ask, but he will know a man from his security team has been found dead. He will find out; it’s only a matter of when.

We choose a quiet cafe not too far from the burning site.

“I haven’t been back to this city since you left. Please thank your brother for getting me out of that school.”

I nod, smiling down at my little muffin and the hot coffee beside it.

The sight of the coffee instantly reminds of Rafael, and my chest constricts.

It doesn’t matter what I have told him; it doesn’t matter what he wants to believe. After what I will do, after everything I will destroy between us, nothing will be left for me.

Only a void.

Only a piece of my broken heart that I shattered myself.

“What has you in such deep thoughts?”

I blink and look up, my mouth opening and closing, but I eventually just shut it.

“That messy, huh?” She raises a brow, and I sigh, an awkward laugh spilling out.

“I was gone for four years, and you suddenly have this look on your face as if your whole world is about to fall apart and you are forced to watch it.”
