Don’t you fucking dare tell my sister what is really happening today.
Raising my brow, I run a thumb across my bottom lip, shaking my head.
“I would never put Allegra in danger. Trust me.” I implore him with my eyes, silently telling him I know what I’m doing. Pulling my angel closer to me, I grate out, “And at least this way, mywoman won’t be legally tied to him.”
Nico stares at me as if I have lost my mind. Maybe I have. But it felt right, Allegra taking my last name, and considering I might not come out of this alive… well, there was no way I would risk not making her mine.
“Way to throw a spanner in the works.” My best friend huffs a laugh.
“I always did like living life on the edge.” I pause, wondering where that thought came from. Since I have been back in the Hamptons, certain memories have returned, but I don’t remember anything about my old personality and yet… it feels familiar. Like that’s exactly who I was, or rather, am.
Nico shakes his head, a curving smirk tugging at his lips. “Yeah, you certainly fucking did.”
Allegra twists in my hold, her hands cupping my cheeks, drawing my gaze to hers. She searches my face. “Did you remember more about the past?”
“Not really. But the words felt familiar.”
She grins. “That’s because they are.”
The hope in her blue eyes tightens my chest. Dropping my forehead to hers, I inhale, murmuring out, “I love you, wife.”
Allegra smiles wide, a contented sigh leaving her pillowy lips. “I love you too, husband.”
A throat clears, breaking our moment. We glance up to find Valentina watching us with interest. “I cannot believemia figlia gotmarried. And without her mamma there to witness it.” Shesounds indignant, but I see the glimmer of amusement in her eyes.
“Sorry, Mamma.” Allegra winces apologetically.
She waves. “Don’t apologize. It makes my heart happy that you not only found your way back to each other, but you are officially Mrs. Allegra Sofia Vitale. As mothers, all we ever want is to see our children happy and married to the love of their lives. I do believe that has happened for both my children.” A tear rolls down her cheek just before my wife pulls her into a hug.
The happiness radiating from both women is tangible. But it’s the burning stare on the side of my face that has my gaze lifting and locking Nico. He wants to talk to me. But in private.
“Bedroom.” I jerk my head to said room.
Nico smirks, the look more shark-like than friendly. “Matteo, Alessio. Bedroom. I need to go through some things with you all.”
“What? What is going on?” Allegra demands, having pulled out of her mamma’s arms, her gaze bouncing between me and her brother.
Stepping into her, I wrap my arms around her waist, pulling her close. “Nothing, angel. Stay here, we just have some business to discuss.”
When my wife glares at me, I know she doesn’t believe me.
And I want to fill her in on everything… but it’s too dangerous for her to know what we have planned.
“Come on,mia figlia. I will call down to the stylist and makeup artist. We need to get you freshened up.”
The mention of the makeup artist and stylist has my blood boiling. It takes every bit of self-control I possess to keep my cool.
Allegra blinks, ignoring her mamma. With her glower pinned on me, she growls out, “Tell me.”
Sighing, I press a kiss to her temple. “There is nothing to tell, principessa. Now be a good girl and stay here.” She protests, but I shut her up by slamming my mouth to hers. She whimpers, her fingers gripping my dress shirt as I kiss her with feral need.
Before I take it too far and do something I can’t come back from – like fucking her right here, right now, I tear my lips from hers, shooting her a not fucking around look. “Stay. Here.” I enunciate, before turning and following Nic to the bedroom. I don’t need to look back to check my wife is heeding my command.
I know she will.
We both needed this, and I am glad I defied Nico’s instructions to be here.
Because the next couple of hours are going to be long and unpredictable.
