“Hey, Remington,” Abigail says in her sultry voice. “What are you doing?”

“I'm here in the office, actually. How are you?”

“I'm back in New York for a month or so before I head off to Costa Rica to teach a wellness retreat.”

“Awesome. Welcome back to the city.”

“I was wondering if you would like to grab dinner tonight.”

“I'm afraid I can’t,” I say, looking over at Juniper, who I can tell is listening to my side of the conversation, because she's so obviously looking in the other direction and not making eye contact with me.

“Oh, well, that's a pity. What about tomorrow?”

“I don't know if I can tomorrow. I'll have to check my schedule.”

“I'd really like to see you,” she says. Ppick up where we left off.”

I think back to where we left off, me inviting her back to my place, and then changing my mind and taking her to a hotel. I think about us in the hotel with her in the bath, waiting for me. I think about how I'd been about to take off my clothes when she started talking about having kids and wanting to know if I'd be a sperm donor, but doing it the old-fashioned way. I told her I'd think about it, even though I had no interest.

“So, tomorrow?” she asks. “What do you think?”

“I'm not sure. I actually might have plans,” I say. “Look, can I give you a call back later?”

“Okay,” she says, sounding disappointed. “But I'll be thinking of you tonight when I play with myself.”

“Sounds good,” I say and hang up. I look back over at Juniper, and she looks annoyed. “What's wrong?”

“That was another woman.”

“How do you know it was a woman?”

“I could tell by the way you were talking and the fact that she was basically asking you to meet up tonight. You know what? I can go home if you want to go out with her and get laid.”

“Juniper,” I say, grabbing her hands and pulling her to me. “Stop. I’m not interested in these other women. I just want to focus on my relationship with Canyon and you know, work.”

“Yeah, because you’re not looking for a relationship, are you?”

“Exactly. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t both enjoy a little fun, right? I ask her softly.

Her eyes widen. “What do you mean?”

“I mean, maybe we can come to a mutually exclusive arrangement.” I kiss her lips and then her neck. “Maybe we can give each other the release we both know we want.”

Chapter Nineteen

Juniper

My heart feels like it's soaring, and for a few minutes, I don't know if I am the luckiest woman in the world or the craziest. Remington takes my hand as we make our way to the elevator. We stop and wait for it to arrive, and I can feel my heart racing as I look at him. "So, are you good with Chinese food?" he asks softly as he looks at me. His dark eyes are intense and full of sexual promise.

I lick my lips and nod. "That sounds good." I can still feel his lips on mine, his hands on my skin, his thumb on my nipple teasing me. I can still feel his hardness pressed against my stomach. I want him, and I know that if he were to ask me if I wanted him to be my first, if he were to promise to make it special, I wouldn't deny him because, even though he doesn't love me, I'm very much falling for him. The ding of the elevator alerts us to the fact that it's time to go down. I let go of his hand as we step inside, and he presses the button to take us to the ground floor. He gives me a secret smile as we stand there. I feelhis finger on the tip of my nose, once again trailing across my neck.

“You’re so beautiful, Juniper,” he says as he stares at me. I push my glasses up the bridge of my nose again and run my fingers through my hair. I smile widely at him. I don’t even care if he’s lying because in this moment, he makes me feel beautiful.

"I have a secret," I say as the elevator moves down.

"What's your secret? Wait, don't tell me you're a princess."

"No, I'm not a princess. I wish."
