She giggles like a schoolgirl, and I watch Canyon staring at her in surprise.
"I mean, that wasn’t what I was gonna say, but..."
"Morning, Liam," I say, feeling slightly annoyed at the banter between the two of them.
"I'm coming," Liam says with a shrug. "Good to see you, Remington." He places his hand on my shoulder and squeezes. "It's been too long."
"It’s been, like, four months."
"Something like that. Well, nice making your acquaintance, Juniper." He looks down at Canyon. "Is this your little girl? Is it bring your kid to work day?"
"No, that's not my daughter."
"That's actually my daughter, Liam," I say. "Canyon, I'd like you to meet Liam Gallagher. Liam, I'd like you to meet my long-lost daughter, Canyon."
"Whoa!" Liam looks taken aback for a couple of seconds but quickly composes himself. He looks at Canyon and then looks at me and nods. "I see the resemblance. It's nice to meet you Canyon. You’re a very pretty little girl.”
“Thank you.” She swallows. “I just met my daddy, but he's nice."
"I think he's pretty nice, too," Liam says and nods.
"Shall we get to work? Come on," I say, leading him inside the office and closing the door.
"Holy fuck, you didn't tell me you had a daughter," he says and then slaps his hand to his mouth. “This room is soundproof, right? They can't hear me?"
I chuckle slightly."They can't hear you. But yeah, I just found out recently myself."
"You were dating the mom, or…?"
"No." I shake my head and take a seat.
"Worst nightmare." He grins as he takes the seat across from mine.
"I mean, it's not exactly my worst nightmare, she's my little girl, but I wasn't exactly prepared to be a father just yet."
"I feel that," he says. "From what I gathered, you never wanted to be a father."
"I mean, I wouldn't say that. It's just not been in my ten- or twenty-year plan. Now enough about my sperm. What's going on? How's everything going?"
"You tell me. You're handling my business."
"I mean, I do the contracts, but the accountant handles the numbers." He sits back and grins.
"And you see those numbers. We both know then I'm doing fairly darn well." He shrugs. He looks over his shoulders at Juniper. "Are you gonna give me her?"
"What?" My tone coldens. "What are you talking about?"
"As an assistant, you told me she's the best."
"Yeah, she's the best, andIneed the best. You can find someone else. She's my assistant."
"Since when did you become so possessive?" he says, laughing. "I kind of feel like she'd be the perfect fit for me."
"What does that mean?" I say, narrowing my eyes. I know that Liam is unlike me in that he doesn’t mind sleeping around with some of the women who work for him.
“Hey!” He holds his hands up. “I don’t mean like that.” He pauses. “Well, maybe I do mean like that. You know I've always had a thing for sexy nerds."
"She's not a nerd, and she's not sexy."
