Me
I’m not exactly in the party mood, Maverick. Besides, Dylan and Finley are moving in today, so I’m not sure what our plans will be or if Archer will want to see me.
Maverick
Bring them along. I’m sure Reeves would love to meet them.
A soft laugh slips out of me.
Me
But the real question is, would Everett and Griffin love their little sisters to meet Reeves?
Maverick
Hey, if it’ll move the spotlight from us for once, I’m not complaining.
True.
It doesn’t make me feel any better.
Maverick
You should come.
Please? I need to see you so I can explain everything. And seeking you out before Archer has a chance to cool down makes me feel like a bigger dick than I already am. If I at least have something to look forward to, I might be able to get through this week without tracking you down.
Me
Yeah, but a party? Are you sure it won’t make us look like we’re bigger dickheads?
Maverick
Hey, don’t lump yourself in with me, Ophelia. Dickhead-singular. Not plural.
Me
After everything that’s happened, I think it’s debatable.
Maverick
Don’t talk like that. Archer wouldn’t want you talking like that, either.
Me
Also debatable.
Maverick
I know it seems like a party’s a bad idea, but avoiding each other won’t fix anything. Not for me. Or you. Or Arch. I’ll even keep my distance so it doesn’t piss him off. But we need something to break the tension. And like I said, it isn’t until next week. Plenty of time for him to cool down.
A lot can happen in a week. But the possibility of Archer cooling down within that timeframe is slim to none. He must hate me.
Me
You sure Archer would want me to come over?
