With a soft laugh, I let out a long breath of relief and reply.
Me
lol, I figured. Have fun tonight. Tell the guys hi for me.
Archer
Will do.
My phone buzzes again with another text, but instead of seeing Archer’s name flash across the screen, I find a familiar one I haven’t seen in a long time. It’s a text from Mystery Man. The nickname makes me smile.
Mystery Man
You’re not coming?
Slipping a little further into the lukewarm water, I type my response.
Me
Why, if it isn’t the infamous Mystery Man.
Mystery Man
Mystery Man?
Me
I haven’t changed your name in my phone since last fall.
Mystery Man
Why not?
Me
I didn’t think I needed to. It’s not like I planned for you to message me anytime soon.
Mystery Man
Not the forgiving type, huh?
Me
I mean, I did let you come inside me the last time we hooked up. If that isn’t forgiving, I don’t know what is.
As I press send, I laugh, imagining what his face must look like. Turned on? Embarrassed? Shocked? Entertained? The possibilities are endless, but I don’t regret any of them, especially if he’s at the party, surrounded by his friends who have no idea who he’s texting or what the person said to garner that kind of response.
Mystery Man
Fuck, Opie. Way to say it like it is.
Me
You’re surprised?
Mystery Man
You’re right. I forgot who I was texting. Where are you?
