I kiss her forehead. “We’ve covered safe words.” I caress Lexie’s hair. “But let’s talk about what you like and don’t like.”

“Okay,” she replies.

“Did you like getting each other off while Dawson watches?”

A mischievous gleam flickers in her eyes. “Is this conversation supposed to make me hot?”

“Is it?”

She huffs a sigh. “Maybe I should keep that answer to myself.”

“Oh no,” I say, shifting to see her face. “Honesty all the way. Okay?”

She bites back a shy grin. “I’ll try.”

“We like making you feel good, Lexie,” I say.

“I’m liking it too, in case you haven’t already guessed.”

I laugh and tuck her hair behind her ear. “Tell us what’s off limits.”

She gives an adorable little shrug, looking sheepish. “It’s not like I’ve had a lot of experience with, um, this kind of thing.”

“Then imagine what would turn you off.”

Lexie fiddles with a loose thread on the comforter’s stitching. “I don’t like the idea of someone coming on my face,” she blurts. “And I’m not into any weird bodily fluid stuff or play that includes vegetables.”

I chuckle. “Got it. Anything else?”

“No pain or torture.”

“Darn,” I say, then give her side a pinch. “Kidding.”

“What about you?” She props herself up with her fist on my chest, her hazel eyes sparkling in the low light.

“Hmm, no sex with animals.”

“That’s a thing?” Lexie asks, horrified.

“Not to us,” Dawson says.

“Don’t scare me like that,” Lexie says with a relieved breath.

Dawson watches Lexie with concern. “What does scare you?”

Her face stills. “Saying goodbye.”

My gut hollows. I sigh and pull her close.

Dawson drapes a blanket over her. “Goodbye isn’t easy for anyone,” he says, leaning over to kiss her hair.

“I didn’t mean to be a downer,” she says. “And I didn’t mean it like, just with you. It’s hard all the time, even with people I know I’ll see again.”

“You’re being honest,” I say, and caress her shoulder. “And that’s what this is about.”

“Okay, then,” she says with a wicked grin. “Tell me your hottest fantasy.”

I give her a look. Is she for real? “Sex on a deserted island with Keira Knightley after our pirate ship wrecked on the shoals and I saved her with mouth to mouth.”
